For those RIM fans and QWERTY smartphone fans and BBM fans and professionals, rejoice as your BlackBerry Bold is getting some good updates. Touchscreen, a blisteringly fast 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 8GB of internal storage, 768MB of RAM, , a microSD expansion slot, 5 megapixel camera and a 35-key backlit keyboard. Oh, and did you know that your next Bold Touch (Dakota) will have touchscreen? Yes, it’s small, but at least you’re still getting some touchscreen. You’ll also get a microscopic 2.8-inch LCD with a woeful 640 x 480 resolution, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack, A-GPS, dual-band 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a 720p movie mode in that puny little screen. Jolly holy, I’m so happy. But wait, why does it still look like the same old Bold? Well, RIM’s going the ‘classical’ way.
Get ready to embrace the cheapest Honeycomb tablet in the market. Acer has finally launched its 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A500 that is loaded with Google’s Android 3.0 operating system aka Honeycomb.
The A500 uses a 10.1-inch display with a 1280×800 resolution, so it will be similar in size and form factor to the Motorola Xoom. It’s actually a bit heavier (1.69 lbs. vs. 1.61 lbs) and fractionally thicker (.52” vs. .51”) than the Xoom, but since these are tablets rather than smartphones it’s unlikely anyone will notice. What they will notice is differences in styling; the A500 has a brushed aluminum casing that looks quite nice in the photos we’ve seen, unlike the Xoom which has a brownish back plate.
Miss your Atari games back when you’re still in primary school? Well, if you’re an owner of an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, then we have some good news for you. The company has just released its Greatest Hits collection for iOS devices, which includes 18 classic arcade games and 82 Atari 2600 games — those available either in 25 separate packs for $0.99 apiece, or in one massive time sink bundle for $14.99 (Pong comes free with the app itself, hell yeah baby!). As you can see, you’ll also get things like the original box art and arcade cabinets for each game, and some of the titles will even let you play head-to-head with a friend over Bluetooth. This weekend’s gonna be so FUN FUN FUN! Everyone’s looking forward to the weekend weekend…
Here’s a ‘cool story bro’ that deserves two thumbs up from every hippies out there. KLM, the Dutch airline, had announced that their first direct flight from Amsterdam to Miami will begin at the end of March. Now, as soon as Dutch DJ Sied van Riel and producer Wilco Jung caught wind of this, they tweeted KLM to ask them to bring the first flight forward a week so that the pair could attend a music festival in Miami using KLM without any transit. And how did KLM respond?
Instead of rejecting two layman’s request, or just simply accept and push forward in hopes to have more customers taking this chance (Miami Music Festival) to aboard their flight with KLM, they instead told the pair that if they could fill a plane up, the company would move that flight forward.
And who knows, within hours of the call to arms, the plan was filled to the brim with a mix of local media, bloggers, dance music fans, and industry people on their way to Miami. Naturally, they busted out the decks and a sound system, getting the Guinness record for the highest altitude dance party.
Now that’s how we party, Rebecca! FUN FUN FUN! Dato Tony Fernandes, interested in breaking this record?
Surprise! Microsoft has whipped out a Bing iOS app tailored for the iPad. They probably though that the previous app isn’t very optimized for tablet, so it’s just released a new version of Bing designed to make the most of the iPad’s more spacious dimensions. It works with both generations of the tablet, though iOS 4.2 is required, and brings an arsenal of goodies to tempt users into giving it a try. A trends area will serve up the top-searched items on Bing, a dedicated movie- and trailer-searching section will help make your matinee decisions that little bit easier, and multiple map views will enlighten you with turn-by-turn directions and real-time transit info. There are even weather updates for up to five cities via MSN Weather and, if for whatever reason you don’t find the touch-centric interface to your liking, there’s a Bing Voice Search option as well. And oh yeah, it’s gratis! Anything that’s gratis is very much welcomed here.
Do you like classical antiques? If you do, then I have good news for you. Apparently there’s a very old television in England, and it’s still working, and they’re going to rip off all your savings and sell this old television to you.
The Marconiphone 720 television is 75 years old, made of wood, was tracked down by a collector a few years ago, and is now up for auction on April 19 at Bonhams in London, where it has an estimated sale price of £5,000 but is expected to sell for “much more.” That will buy you a 12-inch screen that actually has its image reflected on a mirror in the lid, along with most of the original parts — only about 30 percent have been replaced to get the set functional again.
It can even receive digital channels with the aid of a Freeview box. Oh, and it’s black and white. Savvy some old school black and white porn? Oh, right, there’s no Wi-Fi and no USB port.
