BlackBerry Bold Touch goes real, coming very soon

Looks like RIM is serious in launching their BlackBerry Bold Touch. Yes, the name says it all. The phone will retain the familiar Bold shape, and yet having the Touch gene as in the touchscreen ability of that tiny screen. This is the real QWERTY + Touchscreen that we will be experiencing, and BGR is reporting that the prototype looks even better than the renders. The site also reports that the touchscreen is plenty responsive, which could help induce users to move their thumbs from the optical trackpad for navigation. It also reiterates a BlackBerry World launch, so if things stay on track we’ll be getting our own hands on one in just about one month’s time.

Let yourself be the souvenir

April 8th, 2011

No, I don’t mean that you should get nekkid and wrap yourself with red ribbons. Ever get headache as what you should give your close friends and family members as souvenirs when you go traveling? Yes, it’s a headache. I usually buy cigarettes for my uncle, but not everyone smokes, and when I buy chocolates, some people complain of fat and too sweet. Gosh, these people are so irritating.

Now, why don’t you give people a souvenir of, say, yourself? Yes, well, not your whole self, but a ‘Mini me’ version of yourself. Using some software and the power of Kinect, the visitors will gain a plastic version of their own structure, in a very small size, and can be used as souvenirs.

The installation was enjoyed during two weekends in January 2011 by the tourists, neighbours of La Rambla and citizens of Barcelona, a city that faces a trade-off between identity and gentrification, economic sustainability and economic growth.

Too real to be true? Nope, they’re Unreal!

To real to be true? Nope, they’re Unreal!

If you think your Assassin’s Creed game is beautiful, and your Crysis 2 game is so real, then you’ve seen nothing yet. Here’s a demo of the next Unreal engine for the Unreal 3 gaming platform, and damn they do look surreal alright, although it might be too real for some parts, that it looks very unreal. Like, so real, ya know?

Google adds ‘touchscreen-friendly’ to their Chrome OS

Google adds ‘touchscreen-friendly’ to their Chrome OS

When Google previewed their Chrome OS and the CR-48 laptop, there’s talk of it being optimized for tablets too. But when Honeycomb came out, it changed the thinking of the public, that Google might not optimize Chrome OS for keyboard-less machines. But that’s not true.

CNET has been doing some snooping in and around the latest iterations of Chrome OS, where it’s discovered numerous pieces of circumstantial evidence, such as a new onscreen keyboard, suggesting tablets are still very much on the menu. Chrome OS kicked off life on the development device known as Cr-48 and will resume availability this summer courtesy of Acer and Samsung, though I think Google might still stick to netbooks and ultralow voltage laptops for the moment.

Mountain View has responded to CNET’s queries with a pretty inconclusive statement, saying only that “We are engaging in early open-source work for the tablet form factor, but we have nothing new to announce at this time.”

Well, time will tell, but I think Google is gearing up their Android for smartphone and tablet sector, while their Chrome OS will more likely be contending with Windows and Mac OS.

Japan Softbank CEO donates $120 million and his salary for the rest of his life to disaster relief fund

Japan Softbank CEO donates $120 million and his salary for the rest of his life to disaster relief fundMeet the guy that you must respect the most in this world. There are many creative people in this world that gets the noble prize, but this guy gets the biggest applause the world can ever give. Softbank, the only carrier that offers iPhone in Japan, already made a name by offering free exchange of iPhones for those Japanese that lost theirs during the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan, and also offering cell phones gratis to earthquake orphans, and even foot the bills of theirs until they reach 18 years old.

But the wise man isn’t satisfied with his wisdom. The CEO of Softbank, Masayoshi Son, is cleaning his ‘very deep’ pockets in order to ease his fellow people of the Japan. What is he going to offer this time? Well, ¥10 billion out of his own pocket will be used to “support the region and people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami,” and if you’re curious, that equates to just under $120 million in greenbacks.

Well, some might argue that this is just his pocket change, since he’s quite literally bloody rich. But no, he doesn’t stop there. He even vowed to “donate to the same cause all of his future compensation as the head of Softbank.” Yes, all of his net salary from Softbank will be going to the relief fund.

Softbank as a company will be handing over ¥1 billion, with both the man and his entity considering various channels for which the money will be distributed. Sometimes being rich also makes someone very awesome, and this Mr Son is the most awesome person in this round, standing head to head with people like Michael Schumacher who donated $10 million to the tsunami disaster fund in 2005.

Samsung promises April launch for Galaxy S II at some places, no mention of delay

Samsung promises April launch for Galaxy S II at some places, no mention of delay

We’ve heard of Samsung’s plan to speed up their dual-core Exynos processor inside their brand new Galaxy S II to 1.2GHz, which also resulted in a delay for their launch date. Well, as the Tegra 2 version Galaxy S II isn’t affected, they’re using this chance to refute talks of the delays, as the company has tweeted out a two-part notice assuring us that that will not be the case and things are proceeding “as planned.”

April will see the first retail appearance of the 8.5mm-thick Android phone, though Samsung does advise that “it will be gradually rolled out in each market according to the local launch timetable.” My estimation would be that only those markets with higher priority or those designated for the Tegra 2 version will have their in April, so if you’re opting for the Exynos processor version, then it might not be a good news to you if your country has the phone as early as April, though the difference shouldn’t be that big.
