Samsung Galaxy S to get Gingerbread update this month

Owners of Samsung Galaxy S, rejoice, as official words from Samsung’s Finnish site says that the highly popular Android phone will be getting their Gingerbread fix sometime around the middle of this month. Less direct, but still pretty reliable, confirmation of this comes from UK carrier Three, who promises the same OS version will be arriving to its users of the handset “in a couple of weeks.”

White Nexus S now available at Canada

White Nexus S now available at Canada

We’ve previously seen a Nexus S with a white back, but the wind quickly came and gone without any follow-up. Now, the Nexus S is finally available with AT&T’s 850 and 1900 MHz 3G bands from online retailer Negri Electronics, for $600 in your choice of black or white, the backside that is.

According to MobileSyrup, you’ll soon be able to pick up the Nexus S on Fido and Rogers for C$500 contract-free or C$100 with a three-year commitment, and these two carriers use the same 3G frequencies as AT&T in the US, so I’m pretty sure other continents will get theirs fairly shortly.

Or, you can just wait for the next white iPhone to magically appear.

Dell Streak 10 to launch mid-June with Honeycomb, might get a new name

April 8th, 2011

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Dell is preparing to launch two variants of 10-inch tablets for this year, one being a Windows 7 Rosemount tablet that will be coming this summer, and another is a Honeycomb tablet that’ll be coming sometime in June, according to Forbes.

The publication also hints that the tablet heretofore referred to as the Streak 10 may not retain that moniker when it’s time to launch, but it will most definitely be running Honeycomb, though we’re not sure if it’ll keep the Stage UI. Either way, summer 2011 is shaping up to be the season of Honeycomb; and we’re excited to see just what each manufacturer will do to differentiate themselves in the increasingly-crowded space.

Hopefully Dell will be able to keep its 10-inch Streak tablets slim and sexy, because the 7-inch Streak is just plain ugly and fat, it looks ridiculous when placed next to the 7-inch Galaxy Tab and the iPad 2.

Coffee Tables that looks very confusing

Coffee Tables that looks very confusing

They say that computer parts are hard to recycle. Well, I’d agree partly, because you’ll need to be some very creative block to recycle them. Well boys and girls, it’s time to take out your old Pentium 3 and Pentium 4 and Athlon XP rigs and do some fun!

This is the Binary Low Table from BRC Designs. Crappy computer parts? Not really, they used to be some low-tech computer parts, but now they’re your coffee table! Tee-hee…

Inspired by pallets of obsolete computers and electronic parts that were collecting dust in a local warehouse, the table structure is made from the metal from computer towers that are riveted together and bent to the proper form. The surface is completely covered with a collage of motherboards, computer chips, led screens and hard drive disks held in place by sheet metal screws. The glass from the table was salvaged from an abandoned warehouse.

I wonder if they’re easily fall off. Hope the Made in China glue works.

Look, it’s a bird, it’s a bird, it’s… it’s really a bird…

April 7th, 2011

When someone calls out and tell you to look at a flying bird, you might ignore. But what if that bird that they referred to is a robot bird? Yes ladies and gentlemen, now robotic birds can fly just like real bird, and they don’t just use any propellers, they just flappy wings!

This is the SmartBird, and he’s not the size of Big Bird from Sesame Street. In fact, he’s only 1-pound heavy, and has wingspan of a very huge 6-feet. What’s more, it can also take off and land with no assistance, while you control the route of its flight from the ground using a ZigBee radio.

“This bionic technology-bearer, which is inspired by the herring gull, can start, fly and land autonomously — with no additional drive mechanism. Its wings not only beat up and down, but also twist at specific angles. This is made possible by an active articulated torsional drive unit, which in combination with a complex control system attains an unprecedented level of efficiency in flight operation.”

iPod touch prototype with capacitive home button?

Previously we’ve seen rumours of Apple ditching the physical home button on upcoming iOS devices, and wallah, here comes a new prototype that supports this rumour, a new prototype iPod touch with a capacitive home button.

According to its ‘About’ screen, this “DVT-1″ (a late milestone) device packs a whopping 128GB of memory, beating the 64GB prototype iPhone found in Hong Kong. The model number “MC550LL” isn’t very far off from the fourth-gen iPod touches too (“MC54xLL”).

So will we see any leaked prototypes of the next generation iPhone with no physical home button? Coz there’s a kid that keeps on complaining to me about his iPhone’s home button being not very sturdy compared to his sister’s iPhone.
