Rumors have been flying up and down about Apple launching their brand new iPad 2 on our shores this Friday just in time for the Labor Day long weekend holiday shopping spree. Yes boys and girls, you should probably start packing and camp outside the Apple retail store in Tropicana City Mall as this might be getting quite real.
Boxes of iPad 2s have been spotted in the Apple retail store over at Tropicana City Mall, pre-order receipts of iPad 2s have been issued from MacStudio, and apparently Machines are also in a hiring spree for temporary staff for a special event on Friday, which all sounds so fishy. Right?
Currently predicted price for the iPad 2 in Malaysia is said to start from RM 1,499 for the 16GB WiFi model, but the pre-order receipt from MacStudio prices it at RM 1,549 instead.

Recalling the time of being a teenager will most probably include raiding tombs in the wee hours until the sun comes up. The worst is doing a repetitive and boring leveling at Clock Tower and hunting Valkyrie MVP back when Ragnarok Online is still popular. Those were the days. However, current age kids at South Korea might not be able to have clan war matches for their Starcraft 2, and raid tombs in WoW until the next morning anymore.
The National Assembly in South Korea and the judiciary committee have unanimously passed a bill that effectively prevents all under 15s from playing any form of online games from midnight to 6AM everyday (including weekends). The bill however, does not affect offline and console games.
I can already pinpoint a few issues with this calling. First of all, how do you identify which gamer is legit and which is not, since there are a vast huge amount of online games in Korea. Secondly, offline games are still available, and the kids can still play offline campaigns when the curfew takes place. Even Starcraft 2 has an offline mode where you can play against AI. How can such ruling be enforced?

The battle between LG and Samsung has been a harsh one, as both Korean giants battle off to show-off the latest technology from their labs. Now the results are out, and it seemed that LG is victorious, at least in the LED Monitor market. LG claims 18-percent of LED Monitors market share for the year 2010, making it the no.1 seller of LED monitors globally. The research was conducted by a global market research firm, DisplaySearch.
“This represents a strong endorsement of LG’s drive to increase investment in R&D over the last 12 months. The reason for our success is simple: We’ve focused on listening to our customers and then innovating around those needs. To keep on growing our market share, we’re going to be moving strongly into CINEMA 3D monitors in the near future.” — HK Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd.
Just a year before that in 2009, the company only had a mere 1 percent market share in the LED monitors category and leaped to 10% last year. This was made possible because the company was already well prepared when the market shifted from LCD to LED LCD monitors. LG was then well placed to capitalize as the market took off last year. The company invested heavily last year in growing its LED LCD monitor business as they battle off with Samsung, while also conducting a major marketing campaign called “Show Your Sincerity” which was held in nine countries worldwide.
With LED LCD monitors’ share of the overall monitor market expected to grow to 30 percent this year from 10 percent last year, LG is aiming to secure 20 percent of this fast-growing sector. As it pushes hard to consolidate its No. 1 position in the global LED LCD monitor market, LG will be placing a particular focus on products with its In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels, sophisticated, slim design and CINEMA 3D monitors.

Looks like not only LG will be making A15 chips, as Qualcomm will also be having some fancy Cortex-A15 soon, according to the leaked roadmap above. Qualcomm will be sampling its MSM8930/60 and APQ8064 Snapdragon chips this coming Q2 (which is now). This is further proven by the company’s latest earnings report that say sampling of the company’s 3G/LTE MSM8960 chipset will kick in at any time now. If things go as planned, then they might be able to jump ahead of ARM’s forecast of quad-core powered handheld devices coming in late 2012.

After all those heavy rumours these few days, Nintendo has stepped up and confirmed almost everything. Yes, the pioneer of handheld game console will be introducing a new successor to their Wii console next year, and a “playable model” will be shown at the E3 gaming expo is Los Angeles on June 7th.
Company President Satoru Iwata mentioned that Nintendo will “propose a new approach to home video game consoles,” though it won’t be a simple move to 3D, as Iwata notes “it’s difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven’t obtained wide acceptance yet.” Given that motion gaming is no longer new and 3D is off the table until 3DTVs go mainstream, we wonder how Nintendo will innovate the current pace of gaming console.
Well, that’s the only mentioned from Nintendo. No specs and special features being brought up, so we’ll have to wait until E3 then.
