Asahi glass unveils world’s slimmest glass
April 26th, 2011
Well boys and girls, get ready to embrace a new era where your handheld devices will get extremely slim. Yes, it might be slimmer than the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II which is about 8.49mm thick. Looks like the jokes about the next iPhone being only 109 gram, and slimmer than the current iPhone 4 by 30-percent, is no longer valid, if they incorporate this in time. Asahi, a glass supplier to Apple’s electronics devices, has developed a thinner glass substrate for use in touchscreen displays. This new 0.28mm soda-lime glass is 15% thinner than the company’s existing offerings, and Asahi will begin mass producing it by the end of April. Just in time for prototyping the iPhone? April 26th, 2011
I was wondering, does a company such as Lamborghini need to develop commercial videos for their new cars? Well, apparently they did. The raging bull company has crafted a very epic commercial video which is perfect for their latest bull, the Aventador LP700-4. Then again, for what reason? The video doesn’t show you how big the boot is, how good the mileage you can get, and the worst part is the supercar is said to have been sold out for this year and next year, so what is the point of recording a video to advertise a car that has been sold out? Well, let’s just say this is a fan service video for those that cannot afford such cars, like me. Apparently the only way a Lamborghini can be driven is like how they drive the bull in the video below. Yes, we also need to drive the Aventador like that in the city, to avoid potholes. April 26th, 2011
Yes, today we have yet another new regarding the white iPhone 4 that secretly slipped into open market. The picture above is an inventory listing from Best Buy, and it clearly indicates that the mysterious white iPhone 4 will be in stock and ready to ship by tomorrow (April 27). Yes, we’ve seen plenty of those screenshots about the white iPhone 4 listed in multiple retailers’ inventory list, but this clearly shows a proper date, that has been heavily speculated. This is it! For those that are not so excited about the iPhone 5, maybe you should consider this white knight, until Apple announces the next iPhone in fall. April 26th, 2011
This is a super early speculation, as a few separate reports have surfaced that point to Apple preparing to update their iMacs as soon as next week. iMac orders are now being delayed until May 2nd despite the fact that they’re still listed as shipping within 24 hours on Apple’s website, and a separate confirmation from a trusted source of 9 to 5 Mac, who says that Apple will stop shipping iMacs to retailers this week in advance of next week’s supposed release. Mac Rumors also has a report that says Apple will be changing the promotional materials in its retail stores for a launch on Tuesday, May 3rd. So, Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt port on your new iMac? April 26th, 2011
Video on-demand sounds like something from Netflix or Astro-On-Demand, but now it seemed that YouTube is going to do something similar. According to entertainment website The Wrap, YouTube is fully geared up to venture into online movie rental. How is this so? Well, the report says that YouTube has closed deals with Sony, Warner and Universal, as well as smaller entities like Lionsgate, Kino Lorber and other firms, and the service will come as soon as this week! Is this a fight against Apple? Apple currently leads the online VOD market after jumping in with iTunes back in 2008, and we can easily see why Google is so hardworking in this game. Of course, there’s the other smaller firm like Netflix, though they doesn’t seem to be scared of Google’s initiative, saying how happy they are to see a new entrant renting (and eventually selling) movies that’s not using a subscription model. VOD rumors have swirled around YouTube for quite some time and it rolled out $3.99 rentals of indie movies a little over a year ago, here’s hoping they go the whole way and offer nothing less than 3D and 4K streaming to start. April 26th, 2011
So the weird shaped Sony Honeycomb tablet is indeed real, but the real thing doesn’t look so weird after all. Concept designs are always exaggerated, meh. Right, enough ranting from me, let’s talk about the tablet. Sony hosted a press event in Tokyo yesterday where the company announced a pair of Android 3.0 tablets. Yes, there’re two Honeycomb slates. The first is the 9.4-inch S1 media tablet (aka, Qriocity focused) with a curved top much like a folded magazine and both front- and rear-facing cameras. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized “Quick and Smooth” touch panel UI with “Swift” web browser. It can also be used as a remote control for Sony gear thanks to integrated infrared, which sounds so yesteryear. The second tablet is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and camera. While it sounds bulky, Kunimasa Suzuki just pulled the hinged tablet from his jacket pocket on stage, which makes it like a pocketable-tablet. Cool right, reminds me of Nokia’s first communicator. Sony takes advantage of the two screens with a custom book-style UI layout for its e-reader app, email (keyboard on one display with your messages on the other), and others. Both the S1 and S2 tablets are PlayStation Certified and are WiFi and 3G/4G “compatible” according to Sony. Of course, the codenames will change in time to a more ‘marketable’ name, and is expected to come in fall. |
