Playboy goes online, full archive specially for iPad

As much as Steve Jobs is against nudity and porn on his iDevices, there isn’t much that he can about this latest creative idea from the Playboys. He may be able to stop people from submitting nudity or porn-related apps, but if people bypass that and instead uses his Safari browser to go to porn sites, it’s still a legit method, which is what Playboy is hoping for.
Playboy will be putting every page of its magazine back catalogue on its new i.Playboy.com site – including every cover, centrefold, picture and interview, plus all the serious investigative reporting that everybody claimed was the only reason they bought it. That comes to a total of over 130,000 pages since the magazine’s first issue in 1953 – which featured Marilyn Monroe. Users will be able to read, browse through and search the archive, which has been optimised for viewing on an iPad, making it ideal for reading in bed.
The iPlayboy site will only be available through a subscription, which will cost $8 a month, or $60 (just under £5, or just under £37).
Jimmy Jellinek, Playboy’s magnificently-named chief content officer, said that the new site would mean that the magazine’s fans would ‘no longer have to store 57 years – 682 issues – of Playboy under their mattress.’ Now that’s some good news eh?
