Important: How to remove Mac Defender from your infected Mac machine
Macs have a reputation for being safer compared to PCs when it comes to viruses and other malware. Much of that had to do with security by obscurity, as hackers would target the much bigger pool of PCs. With the continued growth and popularity of Macs, though, it may be due time for Apple’s system to be under attack. Ed Bott, a blogger for ZDNet, posted an interview between himself and an unnamed AppleCare worker. The source said that AppleCare call centers are now getting bombarded with calls from customers who have been tricked into installing malware called Mac Defender and Apple Security, among others. “Before this started happening, we had 7-12 minutes between calls generally. Now we’re lucky to have any time between calls,” said the source. “We started getting a trickle of calls a couple weeks ago. However, this last week over 50% of our calls have been about it. In two days last week I personally took 60 calls that referred to Mac Defender.” Something that most Mac owners may not know about is that the AppleCare terms of service state that Apple does not help with malware removal. “Our notice for Mac Defender is that we’re not supposed to help customers remove malware from their computer,” the source explained. “The reason for the rule, they say, is that even though Mac Defender is easy to remove, we can’t set the expectation to customers that we will be able to remove all malware in the future. That’s what antivirus is for.” Despite the clear rules, the source said that “most” AppleCare workers still offer help in removing malware simply because the people on the other end of the line are desperate for help. Bott also obtained an Apple internal bulletin saying that Apple employees must refrain from confirm or deny whether or not a user’s Mac has been infected. Apple employees also cannot make specific recommendations on security software, but instead should direct them to the Apple Online Store or the Mac App Store for antivirus. Nokia’s Windows Phones will feature dual-core ST-Ericsson U8500
May 21st, 2011
If you’ve not notice, all of the Windows Phone 7 handset on the market now are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, making us wander if there’s some secret tie somewhere around. The chip is featured in Microsoft’s original and updated chassis spec for the platform, but soon there might be a second party in the house. STMicroelectronics (the ST in ST-Ericsson) boss Carlo Bozotti is cited by Forbes as saying that Nokia will use ST-Ericsson hardware to power at least some of its Windows Phones. The dual-core U8500 is touted as the first such system-on-chip to appear, with its successors helping to populate Nokia’s expansive WP lineup in 2012. However, it’s not going to power Nokia’s entire WP lineup thought. Thus far, Nokia’s prototype handsets for the new OS are revolved around Qualcomm-based devices, so the ST-Ericsson chip might not arrive on the first wave of Nokia’s WP handsets. Cooler Master organized a case mod competition, and there are really some very amazing mods that surfaced from this competition. But the coolest is probably this one, a rig that is built in a desk. This isn’t really the first time I saw someone stuffed a rig into his/her desk, but this is the first that I saw with a custom water cooling setup. Check out more of the mods after the jump. 57 year old dude eat 25,000 since 1972, still not obese

I can only eat Big Mac for once a month, and I don’t really fancy the taste either. But this dude Don Gorske started eating Big Macs on May 17, 1972 and he never stopped since. He has eaten his way through an astonishing 25,000 Big Macs and is now in the Guinness Book of World Records. See, there’s a Guinness World Record for everything these days. May 21st, 2011
Foxconn’s factory at Chengdu had an explosion yesterday, and black smokes came out of the top floor of a building identified as A5 (A05) at the Foxconn factory, which is identified as an operating room. More than 10 fire engines, ambulances, and 10 police cars arrived on the scene moments later when the incident happened, which happened at 7:10pm local time. The fire is the latest disaster to hit the cursed Foxconn factory – dubbed Suicide Express – where a string of workers (at least 13) have killed themselves amid appalling working conditions. |
