Sony PSN password reset event faced a URL bug, server taken down ‘just to be safe’

When Sony switched their PSN server back online, they faced network congestion due to the overwhelming amount of users resetting their password. However, shortly after the service was put back online, there was an exploit, and the servers were taken down by Sony. Speculations were that PSN got exploited again by hackers, but that wasn’t the case.

If you didn’t know, PSN was taken down weeks ago due to a breach, and the hackers SHOULD have got hold of all your information, including your email and date of birth, which is sufficient to reset your password yet again if they managed to guess your email’s password, if you’ve changed them (PSN password).

However, that does not seem to be the case. Sony has given an official statement that the servers were taken down due to a bug in the URL that can exploit your password when you reset your PSN password.

“Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.”

Right, let’s wait for our turn to have our PSN back online, I want to download those two games!

Fake skeleton made of knit cotton?

Fake skeleton made of knit cotton?

Ever thought how people made fake skeletons for your science class display? Well, I don’t think they use this similar method, but it’s still quite close to what you see in your laboratory. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we are witnessing uber knitting skills that have reached over 9000!

This is a ‘somewhat’ complete skeleton of possibly a human, hand-knit by an artist called Ben Cuevas as part of an installation piece about calcium and building strong bones, or something similar… it does look quite creepily accurate.

The installation piece Ben Cuevas chose to showcase at The Wassaic Project features a knitted skeleton seated atop a pyramid of Borden’s condensed milk cans and a cloud of screen prints on Plexi glass suspended above it. The knitted skeleton is seated in the lotus position. The prints are of disembodied anatomical parts photographed in high resolution with diagrammatic illustrative overlays. Ben conceives of the piece as a reference to material culture and Wassaic’s local history (The Borden Company had a condensed milk factory in Wassaic) and a meditation on transcendence. -Bora Mici

By the way, is he sponsored by Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk?

Bodyless Dodge Viper burnt some rubbers in naked style

Bodyless Dodge Viper burnt some rubbers in naked style

Have you ever thought of how you’d drive your car around if your car doesn’t have its body shell? Strip the panels and doors and even that huge windscreen. Everything’s naked and bare body to its core, and all that’s left is the backbone and the engine, and of course a seat for you.

Someone did that, and he sure chose a very awesome car at that. Mrspringer seemingly got a hold of a V10 Viper-powered Saab 9-3 SportCombi built, but it’s a viper that has shed its skin. Like any mad scientist worth his salt, the guy immediately set the rear tires spinning and the naked guts of the Viper pirouetting in a remarkably tight parking area.

What can we learn from here? Well, you’re going to smell lots of smoke if your car doesn’t have a skin. Good thing that he buckled up.

Google sending out Music Beta invites to Motorola Xoom users now

Google managed to have 5,000 Google I/O attendees turned into their guinea pig for Google’s music obsession, and now they’re ready to serve their loyal customers who jumped into the very first Honeycomb product, the Xoom users.

Music Beta by Google is finally available now to the public, but more specifically Motorola Xoom owners. The early beta users who attended the I/O event are also given invites which can be sent out.

In case you’ve forgotten, that entitles you to free (for now) access to a cloud storage locker where 20,000 of your hits can be saved and streamed to any of your Android device, which in the future will include your Google TV as well, and even your Google fridge, if they ever made one in the future.

ThinkPad X1′s keyboard is spill-proof, to a certain degree of course

ThinkPad X1's keyboard is spill-proof, to a certain degree of course

The IBM ThinkPad is supposed to be a considerably tough notebook for professionals that run around the world, and not too brutal like the Panasonic ToughBook. But it does have some decent level of resilient when coming to abuse.

Engadget was at Lenovo’s UK launch for the ThinkPad X1, and they did quite a stunt, which is to spill water over the keyboard. It wasn’t really a big spill, but just some steady streaming of small amount of water, but it should be sufficient to prove that the X1 is quite spill-proof.

Of course, it isn’t totally spill proof, as Lenovo mentioned that the keyboard tray can only handle 25cl of water before throwing a self-protect switch and turning the computer off. No wonder the X1 shut itself down when the gang from Engadget spill more water onto it.

I’m sure the professionals that are interested in this super slim and tough laptop will be glad to hear that this babe is also able to handle a slight spill, which should be very useful on a shaky plane.

HP refreshed their dv6t and dv7t, now with 1080p resolution

HP refreshed their dv6t and dv7t, now with 1080p resolution

Last week HP updated almost all of their laptops, but the mammoth dv6t and dv7t was left out. Now, we’ve got them refreshed by HP as well, and with some very cool goodies.

The Pavilion Quad Edition dv6t and dv7t was introduced earlier this year, but they only had a measly 1600 x 900 resolution. This time it’s going to be offered with a very awesome resolution, and that is 1080p! Of course, that’ll cost you an extra $150.

As before, both come standard with 2GHz quad-core Core i7 processors, AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics with 1GB of video memory, 4GB of RAM, and 640GB hard drives. HP is also offering free upgrades to 6GB RAM and 750GB hard drive space, though no promises on how long that’ll last.

Before you get too excited, though, 1080p displays are only an option on these so-called Quad Edition models and the dv6t Select Edition — meaning, you can’t opt for this awesome resolution if you’re going for a lower-end dv6 or dv7t.

So, if you’re scouting around for a large notebook, I suggest you act fast, before the offer gets taken down.

Motorola Droid X2 goes official at $200 on Verizon

Motorola Droid X2 goes official at $200 on Verizon

Well the Motorola Bionic hasn’t arrived on Verizon yet, so I’m not sure why Motorola actually throws in this. Verizon will be launching this new phone in May 19, which is later today. It’s the Motorola Droid X2. The phone is a 4.3-inch Android 2.2 (Froyo) smartphone with a dual-core 1GHz SOC sourced from Nvidia’s Tegra 2. The 4.3-inch screen is of qHD resolution, and there’s an 8-Megapixel camera with continuous autofocus and HD video recording at the back.

The X2 will cost the usual $200 on contract and will be available to buy online today in Verizon’s website and some stores. Some other stores will only have them on May 26. Motorola mentioned that the Droid X2 will have a Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update next month.

The Droid X2 has a USB and HDMI port of the side, which closely resembles the Atrix 4G, where the two connectors served to hook that handset up to its laptop and multimedia docks. We don’t know whether the Droid X2 will fit into the accessories designed for the Atrix, but Motorola and Verizon hasn’t mentioned anything related to this yet.
