Korea throws WiMAX into your iPhone 4, even adds more juice!
May 16th, 2011
When Apple launched their iPhone 4, it seemed to have so many breakthroughs (well at least Apple made us think it had). But fast forward a year, and now the iPhone 4 seemed to lack so many things compared to those newer Android phones. I’m not going to talk about dual-cores, but the iPhone 4 only had a 3G radio chip, whereas most phones these days are said to be 4G as they support HSPA+. Now, what if your iPhone 4 can easily get WiMAX support through a case? That’s what the Korean did. Korean Telecom’s new Egg sleeve gave WiMAX to the iPhone 4, but also incorporates an extra battery to allow five hours of 4G surfing. What more can you ask for? Of course, doing so will add bulkiness to your slimly beautiful iPhone 4, which actually adds up 68g and 8mm to your magical phone. The thing ain’t really that pricey at ₩129,800 ($120) but you’ll have a hard time getting them outside of Korea. Notice that sinister smile in the picture above? That’s why! Ever since Asus debut their Sabertooth-series motherboard based on the clay-design, it has received good reviews. Now that Sandy Bridge has become very popular, it’s no surprise that Asus will bring their “Thermal Armor” motherboard into the P67 crowd. Let us welcome the new Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard, which really looks superb. What’s more, its military-grade components are highly regarded as quality stuff, and since Asus is slapping a 5-year-warranty onto this babe, we really can’t help but drool over this masterpiece. Important note is that Asus doesn’t ship the primo slab with a dedicated cooling fan, so component temperatures can actually go up ten degrees Celsius when wearing the shroud with a system under heavy load. Of course, cooling depends on a number of factors, and you can easily squeeze in a tiny fan into that square hole to cool things even further. Head over to The Tech Report for the complete rundown. Xbox 360 spring update coming May 19?
May 16th, 2011
With all the news surrounding Sony’s PSN, let’s take a break and head to the Xbox camp. Microsoft is said to be prepping an update for their popular console, the Xbox 360. Joystiq has a leaked internal document that confirms that the big Xbox 360 spring update will hit on May 19th. However, it’ll come in six “separate groups” to “ensure a high quality deployment,” so you might not get it until the end of the month, and everyone will have to wait until May 27th to get Avatar Kinect. Besides that, there is also support for slightly larger disc format and support for PayPal, opening the door to a bold new world of personal finance information able to be hacked from your console. May 16th, 2011
Ever since the ultra-slim ThinkPad X1 laptop from Lenovo surfaced, we’ve been in loved with it, and seriously we really lack some information about the laptop. But now Lenovo has kindly added more to inform us of how awesome this laptop is. The laptop has shown up at an X Series comparison site, put together by Lenovo itself. The 13.3-inch display is dubbed a SuperBright HD inifinity panel built using IPS technology. There’s also an integrated fingerprint reader as usual, a buttonless touchpad, USB 3.0 connectivity, and a promised 10-hour battery life with a slice battery that is said to have faster charging with newer battery technology. Weighing in at 1.36kg (3lbs) and measuring about 16mm (0.625 inches) in thickness, it’s described as Lenovo’s thinnest ThinkPad yet. Lenovo didn’t mention when it’ll be available, but last we heard, it’s expected to hit shelves on May 17th.

May 16th, 2011
Looks like the ‘summer full of shows’ is about to bare fruits! Remember many companies stated “a summer release” for many of their products? Well, the first is about to roll out. Yes! HTC’s dual-core super smartphone, the Sensation 4G packed with Gingerbread and a brand new Sense UI, is expected to arrive in early June, with a specific date of 8th of June. First TmoNews got its hands on a Target placard pricing the snappy dual-core Snapdragon handset at $199.99, for what appears to be a June 12th release, and then the site snagged a shot of internal T-Mobile documentation that confirms the earlier June 8th date. Why the discrepancy? Well, it certainly wouldn’t be unheard of for the carrier to give itself a head start, and surely Target wouldn’t mind timing its own release up with its Sunday circulars. Since US is expecting an early June launch, I’m pretty sure Maxis, which has an MOU with HTC, will launch this super phone on our shores shortly too. SOURCE via TmoNews Nokia killing the Ovi brand?
May 16th, 2011
Reports have surfaced that Ovi Store, Ovi Maps, and Ovi everything else will soon be getting a name change. Nokia has announced that the company is “evolving” its software brand identity by renaming its service offerings to Nokia services, starting with new devices in July and August. This transition is expected to fully saturate in 2012, which is inevitably the period where the first Windows Phone 7 from Nokia is expected to arrive. Part of that agreement was for Nokia software, Maps in particular, to be made available in other Windows Phone devices and across Microsoft’s range of services, so it makes sense for Nokia to name everything under its big name for easier recognition (and marketing). Nokia mentioned that nothing structural will be changed though, as this is just a new nameplate atop the same strategy as outlined previously. Goodbye Ovi, you will not be missed though. May 16th, 2011
Remember that Samsung pulled their Gingerbread update for their Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab back in mid-April, under orders by Google? Well, it seemed that things have been sorted out, and Samsung is now ready to boot up Kies for another go at things. The Korean electronics giant has announced that the company is ready to update its entire Galaxy S family line to Gingerbread (excluding those new ones that shipped with Gingerbread stock of course). They will start with models in the UK and Nordic countries from the middle of this month. The rest of the globe, including North America, will follow suit “according to the regional plan.” Also tagging along for the Gingerbread upgrade will be the 7-inch Galaxy Tab (the original one, remember?), and the company’s bevy of budget Galaxy devices, the Ace, Gio, Fit and mini. Looks like Samsung didn’t neglect the small kids too. |
