There have been some unhappy fans that are making some noise ever since HTC started locking the bootloader and encrypting their new Android phones. The phones affected are Thunderbolt, Incredible S, Sensation 4G, and EVO 3D. Basically, the newer phones all have locked bootloader with encrypted keys. However, HTC CEO Peter Chou has officially dissolved the issue at their Facebook fanpage, and assures that future devices will be open.
We already know that Asus will be unveiling a new tablet at Computex, but it seem that tablet won’t be the only thing shown here. Asus has just posted two teaser pictures at their Facebook fanpage, which can be seen above. The left is actually just a reminder of the Eee Pad MeMO’s June launch, though the words “A Tablet That Jumps Out at You” could also imply a device bearing 3D functionality of some sort. Maybe ASUS managed to upgrade said 7-inch Honeycomb tablet just in time? Well, we’ll know very soon.
What’s new here is the next image, which comes with the “Pad or Phone” teaser. Hopefully it’s not a phone that can transform into a tampon, because the next line “How about both?” really suggest so. The image seemed like a docking-system, yet looking like a tablet. Could this mean Asus is toying with the idea of an Atrix-like docking combo, except the lapdock is instead just a tablet?
Microsoft has been rumoured to demo their Windows tablet OS this year, with a scheduled launch next year, but has at time and time again shoot down such rumour. Well, this time the rumour is going intensely nearer, as Microsoft is said to be holding a preview event for their their Windows tablet OS.
According to Bloomberg, three sources have confirmed Microsoft’s plan to flaunt the much-anticipated UI, possibly at upcoming appearances at AllThingsD and Computex. The showcase is supposedly set to run the touchscreen-enabled software on a Tegra-equipped machine.
If all these are accurate, then we might actually see the thing headed for launch next year after all.
Nokia previously announced their partnership with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform, and also announced the seemingly death of Symbian. But now, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is trying to do some damage control, probably due to the protest of all those Symbian developers in Nokia.
In an interview with Nokia Conversations, Elop attempted to placate his shareholders and customers by stating that the OS’s last update will take place somewhere around 2016 at the earliest. What? That’s like 5 years more of Symbian… Well, Mr Steven is actually trying to comfort shareholders and customers.
He isn’t switching the focus away from Windows Phone as his company’s bright new future, but he does want to assuage folks who sunk money into Symbian that their investment isn’t just going down the drain.
Stating there is “a long history still to be paved for Symbian in the future,” Elop didn’t volunteer any additional details on update strategy or how much longer new Symbian phones will be sold.
Why are you dragging this, Nokia? Too emotional to let go?
It looks like Nvidia is more than just a hardware supplier for Google’s Honeycomb tablets, where we see almost all Honeycomb tablets and even a number of dual-core Android phones running on Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SOC. Nvidia are now also a partner of YouTube, which is under Google, and what are they teaming up for? 3D!!!
Nvidia and YouTube made a big announcement today that promises to bring stereoscopic 3D YouTube videos to NVIDIA 3D Vision PCs and notebooks, running Firefox 4. Yup, now it’s Nvidia + YouTube + Firefox 4 = 3D videos!
If you’re rocking an NVIDIA GeForce GPU-equipped machine, sporting driver release 275 or later, a 3D Vision monitor, notebook, projector, or DLP HDTV, and Firefox 4 with streaming HTML5, you’ve got access to all the 3D goodness YouTube has to offer — given you’re not trying to access content via a standard YouTube channel, as the outfit’s HTML5 support is still limited. Sounds like a handful of things that you’ll need, but well that’s actually not a lot.
Any Nvidia cards starting from the GeForce 400 Series, with the drive version 275 or newer would do. Of course, let’s not forget that you’ll need a 3D Vision monitor (which usually also comes with an active shutter 3D glass), which is probably the pinched point of these entire 3D stunts. Firefox shouldn’t be a problem, right? RIGHT?!?
Did Activision’s upcoming blockbuster and inevitable-record-breaking first-person shooter game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trailer impress you? No? Well, Activision knew that, because Battlefield 3’s 12-minute gameplay totally slapped it with a large tout, and then some. So, how do they make up with the shitty graphic? Well, by releasing a few more in-game footage screenshots, of course.
The two ‘intentionally leaked’ images are what Activision called in-game screenshots, and well I can’t deny that they do look good. Hope Activision didn’t shop that up!
Dude’s swimming in pond full of sperms! Yikes!
Dude’s trying to peek on the ladies using his uber Infra-Red night-vision telescope on his rifle!
Want some pretty ladies like the one above working in your office? Then you’ll need to have this new Samsung laser printer in your office. Samsung has unveiled two silent printers in the form of the ML4510 and ML-5010 series.
Designed for business users, both A3/A4 printers produce only a 54dB of noise. These printers also adopt the anti-jam technology, which will make our life (or the technician that sleeps in the storeroom everyday) easier.
Additionally, the Samsung ML4510 and ML-5010 series printers are powered by a 600MHz dual core ARM processor and a 1GB of RAM. Yikes, even printers need to have dual-core processors!
Unfortunately, there is no info on pricing at this moment. Also, Samsung doesn’t guarantee that pretty ladies will be rushing to work at your office, and the lady above does not come with the package, but by placing the printer outside your conference room will somehow boost the chances thought.
There’s a new player in town for the SSD market, as Buffalo has just unveiled their first SSD to the Japanese market. Things will be getting crowded from here on. The model here is SSD-N256S/MC400, which is a 256GB MLC Solid State Drive. Thought it’s stated to be 256GB, but usable space should be about 239GB, which makes them similar to those 240GB SSD in the market.
The drive is said to be able to provide up to 405MB/s of data transfer rate (reading speed), which is almost on par with those OCZ Vertex 3 SSD drive that is said to be using the latest SandForce SF-1200 NAND controller. What’s more, the The Buffalo SSD-N256S/MC400 is also a 6Gbps SSD, so we strongly believe that this new SSD is using the latest SF-1200 controller.
The Buffalo SSD-N256S/MC400 256GB SSD will be released in Japan later this week for 72,200 Yen or around $883.
