Finally, a camera that lets you focus after you takes a picture

Ever looked back at the picture you’ve just taken with your camera and realize that your subject is out of focus and it’s too late to take another one? I have, always; it’s not easy to take good pictures with a lousy cheap camera and it’s even harder to take them when you’re stuck behind a group of people and are not rough enough to barge your way through. This is why the Lytro’s first light field camera is like a dream come true because instead of having to mess with dials or press the shutter countless times for it to focus properly, all focusing will be done after you take the pictures.
Instead of capturing shots of light hitting a sensor like a typical digital camera, the light field technology will separate rays of lights in order to individually record their color, intensity and direction. With all the extra information taken, you will be able to change your focus to just about anywhere after you’ve taken the image and it will even be able to boost images taken in very low light ambiance.
The technology is not new though; light field cameras have been around for quite some time, but not commercially. Thanks to Lytro who has secured backing worth USD$50 million, they are planning to bring the camera at a competitive price to the market later this year. Sure, you can use solutions from Adobe, but not everybody’s savvy enough to edit their own photos, heck, with the new camera, you won’t even need to spend that extra money to buy extra photo editing software. Is this finally a camera that lets you capture special moments of your children and pets that never stop moving about every time you whip out that camera?
