Mac Pro and Mac Mini to get Sandy, Thunder, and Lion in August?

Apple announced OS X Lion officially a couple of weeks ago via WWDC, and according to CNET TV’s Brian Tong, it seems that we be able to get our grubby paws (ha ha) on a Lion machine sometime between the end of July and the first week of August.

Brian’s information comes from his source within the Cupertio stronghold, which looks to be the same one that accurately predicted the launch of the latest generation of iMacs in April or early May, and names Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt ports as the key features of these new products.

Historically, Malaysian launch dates come a week after a new Apple product is launched in the USA, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

Microsoft says Autorun.inf viruses’ days are numbered. For real?

Beware, malware. The Windows AutoRun updates for Vista and XP SP3 that Microsoft released in February have so far proven successful in thwarting your file corrupting ways. Although Windows 7 was updated to disable AutoPlay within AutoRun for USB drives — freezing the ability for a virus to exploit it — the aforementioned versions had remained vulnerable up until right after January. Fast-forward to the period between February and May of this year, and the updates have reduced the number of incidents by 1.3 million compared to the three months prior for the supported Vista and XP builds. Amazingly, when stacked against May of last year, there was also a 68 percent decline in the amount of incidents reported across all builds of Windows using Microsoft’s Malicious Software Remove Tool. There’s another fancy graph after the break to help illustrate, and you’ll find two more along with a full breakdown by hitting the source link down under.

Google trademarks Photovine, new photo-sharing service coming?

Google trademarks Photovine, new photo-sharing service coming?

Well, it looks like Google’s got the online rumor mill churning with its latest trademark application. Back on June 7th, El Goog filed a USPTO application for the name Photovine, sending sparks flying down the, er, grapevine about a possible photo-sharing program. The application cites a service dedicated to the “transmission of visual images and data by telecommunications networks, wireless communication networks, the Internet, information services networks and data networks.” Unsurprisingly, it looks like the internet giant’s also picked up the corresponding domain name. So is Google getting ready to add photo storage to its recent suite of cloud services? Or is it looking to up its social media cred? And where does Picasa fit into all of this? One things for certain: we won’t be responsible for letting this round of speculation whither on the vine.

HP TouchPad can’t edit documents, well at least when launch?

HP TouchPad can’t edit documents, well at least when launch?

The WebOS nuts at PreCentral have received an anonymous tip-off that HP’s imminent slate won’t be able to edit Office docs out of the box. As much as we’d like to dismiss this as a retaliatory rumor put out by BlackBerry, it emits an unfortunate whiff of truth.

While HP has previously made a big deal of the TouchPad’s inclusion of the Quickoffice app, it has only said it’s “working with Quickoffice” to include document editing, and it has never demoed editing in action. The company has recently been trying to boost its app count, but perhaps it should have put more effort into securing core functionality instead.

A glimmer of hope, though: the same tip-off also suggested that at least some editing capabilities will be introduced “via a downloadable update in Q3 2011″.

Gordon Murray’s new BatMobile is very “green” and “light”

Gordon Murray’s new BatMobile is very “green” and “light”

So, the next Christopher Nolan’s batman movie is just around the corner, and Gordon Murray too has whipped out his “new” version of the BatMobile just in time for some hybrid/electric vehicle season.

The designer drew on his experience with the McLaren F1 for his new concept car, which includes a healthy dose of imagineering: there’s a carbon-fiber body that “breathes,” as well as LED-lit “virtual wheels.” We’re not sure how carbon fiber breathes or what virtual wheels are, but as Murray explain in the video below, they’re based on Formula One materials as he imagines those 15-20 years from now.

He also envisions a greener Dark Knight, whose ride runs on hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries — no longer will the caped crusader suffer a guilty conscience due to his excessive carbon dioxide emissions. Read more…

F10 BMW M5 goes official – twin turbo V8, down from the previous V10

F10 BMW M5 goes official

BMW has finally unveiled its flagship high performance F10 – the all new BMW M5, seen here in Monte Carlo Blue. For the F10, BMW has given it a higher level of design differentiation over the regular F10 and F10 M Sport, unlike the E60 where the cars looked almost the same from the front.

Moving to the rear, there’s a subtle bootlid spoiler, and like the M Sport bumper the reflectors have been moved up nearer to the tail lights. Where the M Sport bumper featured a gloss black section around the tailpipes, the lower part of the M5 bumper gets an aggressive bespoke look to complement the classic M5 quad tailpipes. Read more…

New Windows 8 leak hints at SMS support, feature licensing, and geo-location

Considering its adoption of the Windows Phone metro style, it’s not surprising to hear that Windows 8′s latest leaked build sports a metro-inspired virtual keyboard and traces of code that could bring SMS 3G enabled Windows 8 devices. What about an App store and a feature-licensing?

Buried in the Windows 8 code, Microsoft enthusiasts have found strings that may hint at a Windows App store, and the ability to activate or deactivate certain OS features through that store. Will this be the end of “Home,” “Pro,” and “Ultimate” editions of Microsoft’s flagship product? We wouldn’t hold our breath.

Second wave of #OpMalaysia from Anonymous on the way, plans to cripple national internet infrastructure

Anonymous has posted yet another video regarding their #OpMalaysia regarding their attack on Malaysia government’s site. The first wave, which was conducted last week, result in a reported 41 government information site being taken down, though how true is that we do not know. However, this second wave targets the Prime Minister Office site, and the hacktivist group also claim to cripple the national infrastructure down.
