Google’s done a ton of talking about search at its Inside Search event today, and two of the biggest new developments are on the desktop. It’s just announced that Android-style Voice Search is headed to Chrome (with support for English only, initially), and that it will be joined by a new Search by Image feature (also available in Chrome, or Firefox with an extension). To use that latter feature, you simply drag and drop an image or cut and paste an image URL in the search box, and then Google tries its best to recognize it and deliver relevant results — including identifying the location in an old vacation photo, for instance (though Google notes it isn’t doing face recognition). Both features will be rolling out over the next few days, but you can get a glimpse of them now in the demo videos after the break. Read more…
HTC yesterday disappointed thousands of Desire users when it revealed that the device would not be getting Android’s Gingerbread update because there wasn’t enough RAM. HTC originally said that it would not be able to bring Gingerbread to the Desire because there wasn’t room enough for Gingerbread and the company’s own Sense UI. Read more…
Were you excited when Nintendo announced its new game console, the Nintendo Wii U? Did you hope to have something more than playing games and owning an awesome controller that features a display? Wished that it could do something the original Wii couldn’t, like play DVDs? This will probably be not much of a surprise for many though, especially if you’re a fan of Nintendo, but the company has decided to make it clear that the console will not be capable of playing DVDs, neither will it play back Blu-ray discs.
Of course, it’s not all such a bad thing, with lesser features, it means that the company can put its new gaming console at a more competitive price range. If it’s any consolation, the original Wii couldn’t playback DVDs either, the feature was left out for North American Wii consoles.
“The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.” – Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo.
Well, in a way, Nintendo is right, I already have a Blu-ray player that is capable of playing DVDs as well, my PlayStation can do that just as well, why will I need a Wii U? Then again just in case you didn’t already have a DVD player, I’m sure it wouldn’t be long before someone comes out with a solution would it? Will this affect your decision into buying the new Nintendo game console when it comes out?
UFO and alien events in Russia have gone into overdrive over the last six months. It is believed that officials from Moscow’s Interior Ministry are currently in damage-control. Clumsy cover-up stories are quickly being put together to conceal the reality of alien visitation made obvious by a series of high profile and publicly reported events beginning with a UFO that was tracked travelling at 6000mph and whose occupants communicated in odd “cat sounds”, then moving on to a UFO crash witnessed by thousands in the Irkutsk region and reported by all major media outlets in Russia (albeit censored in the West) and culminating in an Alien found in the snow in the Republic of Buryaita. The last event was followed by an obviously flawed and extremely suspicious official cover-up.
Now a UFO has been recently filmed being transported by Russian military helicopter and the footage below has become set forums across the internet alight with speculation. Some have suggested that this might indeed by the object that crashed outside Irkutsk. Some have also suggested that in a surprise move Russia may turn out to be the nation that informs the world of the the fact that we are being visited by UFOs and aliens and have been for some time.

Seems as though hacking group LulzSec (aka Lulz Security) has something against gamers. That, or they just like to hear gamers complain after their favorite game-related websites and services are bombarded by DDoS attacks. This became quite clear on Tuesday, or rather, on Titanic Takeover Tuesday, in which the group took down numerous websites apparently just for the fun of it.
“Welcome to #TitanicTakeoverTuesday where everyone is laughing at crybabies getting Lulz Cannoned!” the hacking group said during one of its many Twitter messages documenting the online assault. They took down The Escapist, EVE Online, Minecraft and League of Legends in its latest DDoS wave on Tuesday. Read more…
The Nook WiFi may have been rooted to play Angry Birds, but Kobo’s competing eReader Touch Edition can apparently show off its gaming capabilities with factory settings. It turns out that aside from the Nook-like embedded web browser we uncovered in our review, the e-reader also comes pre-loaded with Sudoku — perfect for some pattern deducing fun between reads. YouTube user codystheory has posted a video showing the quick sequence of taps needed to access the game, and we can definitely say it looks much easier than installing a custom ROM.
