Apple Thunderbolt cable, Promise RAIDs now available to get your 10Gbps interconnect on

Four months ago, Intel and Apple debut their awesomely fast Thunderbolt I/O with 10Gbps transfer speed, and boy, that four months sure pass by fast without any sound. The MacBook Pro and iMac lines have since been refreshed with the new inter-connect, but early adopters haven’t had much more than a fancy port to stare at.

Thankfully, Apple’s $49 T-bolt cable is finally available as your ticket to the 10Gbps superhighway. Apparently, it quietly hit Apple’s web store this morning along with some fresh Promise Pegasus RAID enclosures ($1k for 4TB up to $2K for 12TB) to support it.

All of the peripherals appear to be in stock and ready to ship; so if you’ve been eagerly waiting to make use of that extra port, now’s your chance.

Nikon shows off concept cameras in France, inspiration probably came from a mosquito micro shot

Nikon engaged in a bit of conceptual product show-and-not-as-much-tell at the French Cité des sciences et de l’industrie exhibit, Hello Demain (Hello Tomorrow). The four prototype cameras on display ranged from the clearly defined — a fully customizable SLR that swaps the lens, grip and LCD screen at your whimsy — to the mysterious webcam dongle-ish i-Ball of unknown purpose, to a mundane six-inch screener. But the real étoile of this forward-facing soirée is that Multi-Ball cam — guaranteed to be a panoramic morning-after hit (or cause for much hungover consternation). While these concepts reside proudly in the province of tomorrowland, it’s only a matter of time before they digitally immortalize your precious visage.

Bruce Wayne to drive Lamborghini Aventador in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

Bruce Wayne to drive Lamborghini Aventador in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

Bruce Wayne has lots of toys at his disposal. Billions of dollars and Lucius Fox mean a near unlimited supply of pure awesome. Still, Wayne can’t play Batman during daylight hours, so his ride has to be a tad more subtle than The Tumbler. In Batman: The Dark Night, Bruce Wayne drove a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640, which he used to save someone else’s life.

We won’t lie, that scene caused the room to get a little misty. Thankfully for Wayne, his billions allow a new bull to take the Murci’s place, and a Lamborghini Aventador appears to be the ride of choice for Gotham’s favourite playboy.

A member of the Luxury4Play.com forums, obtained photos of the Gotham-plated Aventador on the set of the new film. The aggressive features of the Italian supercar are strong enough that the two-door could become a villain in its own right. Thankfully, the good guy holds the keys. Batman: The Dark Night is expected to zoom into theaters next summer, Lamborghini and all.

Ride along with Monster Tajima as he rockets up Pikes Peak

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima’s 9:51.278 run up Pikes Peak was simply amazing to watch. We were fortunate enough to see it in person, and we’ve shown you still photos of the record-breaking event. This was one of those “You had to be there” moments in motorsports. Still, don’t fret if you didn’t make the trek to the 14,115-foot summit, because GoPro installed enough cameras to capture every angle of Monster’s run, and then some. Want to ride along with Monster from the green to the checkered? Click past the jump to watch a video that will keep you entertained for nearly 10 minutes.

BMW 1M Coupe drifts atop tallest helipad in the world

BMW 1M Coupe drifts atop tallest helipad in the world

Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Well, maybe not quite, but the 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe is definitely fast and powerful. And now it’s been spotted atop one particularly tall building.

The building in question, the U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles, stands 1,018 feet tall, making it the tallest building in California and the tenth tallest in the United States. For the purposes of the BMW marketing machine, the fact that it is the tallest building in the world topped with a helipad is its most important attribute.

As you’ll see in the video after the break, BMW decided it would be appropriate to film (or at least use darn near perfect computer generated imagery to make it look like it filmed) its 1M Coupe drifting in a fine arc atop the circular helipad. We don’t know why, but we don’t really care. See why in the video after the break.

Pandora integration comes to the 2012 Scion xB

The 2012 Scion xB will begin rolling into dealerships next month, and while there’s not much in the way of upgrades to the exterior, interior or powertrain, two new stereo options are included in the boxy package.

The standard xB’s Pioneer head unit is now equipped with HD Radio, allowing stations to broadcast multiple audio feeds over one frequency. If nothing’s playing to suit your tastes, standard Bluetooth audio streaming is included in the package, along with hands-free phone connectivity and USB audio support for iPods, iPhones and other MP3 players.

If you opt for the new 200-watt Pioneer Premium audio system, the standard OEL screen is replaced with a 5.8-inch LCD touchscreen equipped with iTunes tagging and the ability to stream Pandora internet radio directly from your iPhone.

Pricing for the 2012 xB is set at $16,300 for the five-speed manual version and $17,250 for the four-speed automatic (not including the $720 destination fee) – an increase of $300 for the manual model and $300 for the automatic.

Belle will arrive after Anna as Nokia continues to work on Symbian, still no signs of last hurrah

Belle will arrive after Anna as Nokia continues to work on Symbian, still no signs of last hurrah

GSM Arena was tipped by an anonymous of a new prototype Nokia called Nokia 700, aka Zeta. The phone is said to be powered by a 1GHz processor inside (unconfirmed), and the successor to Symbian Anna, called Belle.

The Nokia 700 has a 3.2″ nHD AMOLED screen, which points to this being a Nokia C6-01 replacement. The Nokia 700 is also reportedly quite light (a bit over 80g) and measures 110 x 51 x 10mm, which doesn’t quite mesh with the “thinnest smartphone ever” claim, but those measurements may change as its design is still being developed.

Belle will arrive after Anna as Nokia continues to work on Symbian, still no signs of last hurrah

From the photo, you can see that the camera is a 5MP unit and has a LED flash. We can’t guess at whether or not it has autofocus though. Also, the Nokia 700 has NFC connectivity, which Nokia seems to be warming up to following the Nokia N9 announcement.

Other specs that the tipster managed to get out of the Nokia 700 (which as we speculated might be called N7) are that it runs Symbian Belle (an update to Anna) and packs Wi-Fi b/g/n. There are also fast HSPA speeds (10.2Mbps or 14.4Mbps downlink and 5.76Mbps downlink). The battery was a 1080mAh unit.

New Symbian with 1GHz processor and Anna successor being developed?

An unknown specification sheet of four new yet to be announced Symbian handsets has surfaced on the net and they all seem to be running on a 1GHz processor, a first for any Symbian device. Well, they’re the only company left that’s still using Symbian so they can be first for Symbian in almost anything anyway. Read more…
