Google Android now on 135 million devices
July 19th, 2011
Among the highlights was certainly Android, which is now said to be present on more than 135 million active devices. According to Google, 550,000 Androids are now activated every day and there have been more than 6 billion App downloads. Google is categorizing Android as a “high consumer success” product, next to Chrome and YouTube. Page noted that Google is heavily investing in those segments to ensure their “long-term success.” Android appears to be especially growing like a weed as the activation count was at just 500,000 per day a month ago and the total device count was at just 100 million two months ago. Google noted that more than 250,000 apps are now available for Android. Lamborghini Murcielago Meets Star Wars
July 19th, 2011
Looks like this one won’t be making the jump to light speed anytime soon with its horrendous paintjob. This Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 was transformed into a Star Wars tribute using a complete vinyl overlay by SS Customs for the goldRush Rally 3. Designed for Team Golden Empire, many enthusiasts will rejoice in the fact that this is only a temporary customization. The overall consensus from the internet feels that a perfectly beautiful vehicle was ruined. We’re all for the geeking out of cars but this particular design seems to lack the commitment that many others make in their customizations. Such as this H-Wing Honda or this P-51 Lamborghini Gallardo. We aren’t complaining though, at least it isn’t this. Microsoft Teases New Social Site Called ”Tulalip”
July 19th, 2011
Facebook has taken down the likes of Friendster and MySpace, Google has their Plus, and Apple has their Ping. Well, I won’t be surprised if Microsoft were to create a social network around their Xbox network. Microsoft “accidentally” revealed its social project codenamed Tulalip, but then quickly removed the site once word of its appearance began to circulate the Web. Wednesday brought reports that Microsoft purchased the socl.com domain name based on a WHOIS record that revealed the Redmond company as the proud new owner. Then just one day later, Microsoft “accidentally” launched a teaser landing page revealing an upcoming “social search” service called “Tulalip.” The site was quickly removed and replaced with a message reading thanks for stopping by, but not before news of the site began to spread like wildfire. This reverse printer strips ink from your papers
July 19th, 2011
In a concept that is sure to save trees as well as your precious money, designer Kim Su Yeon has created a printer that doesn’t exactly perform the typical task you would expect of a regular printer. The Ink Remover Printer utilizes laser technology to burn the ink right off of paper, essentially becoming your own personal paper recyclers. This would allow you to use the same pieces of paper dozens of times, assuming the printer doesn’t set it on fire. Acer announce Aspire 5755, comes with WiDi-equipped

Always carry your laptop around for work usage, but also likes to watch some nice video contents on your home’s huge ass 3DTV from your laptop? Well, sometimes the HDMI cable is a big hinder. You’ll need to place your laptop near to your TV, and also mess things up. Won’t it be better if all you need to do is to link both together wirelessly? Well, such technology already exists, and it’s called the Wireless-Direct, aka WiDi, and Acer’s latest Aspire 5755 comes with it. This one packs a 15.6-inch display with a rather lowly 1366 x 768 resolution, but it at least boasts some built-in WiDi so you can easily view movies (or anything else) on a larger display without the need for any pesky cables. Otherwise, you’ll get your choice of Intel Core processors (up to a Core i7-2820QM), up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum 1TB of storage, NVIDIA’s Optimus-enabled GeForce GT 540M graphics, and either a Blu-ray or basic DVD drive — all for a starting price of £899 (or roughly $1,440). This one’s available in the UK right now, but there’s no news on availability on other regions. SOURCE via Tech Digest Audi prepares to fend off BMW with new A5 DTM
July 19th, 2011
The big news which touring car racing fans were waiting for this weekend came when BMW unveiled its new M3 DTM concept that will spearhead the marque’s return to the series next year. But don’t think for one minute that returning manufacturers Audi and Mercedes-Benz are about to let their Bavarian rival simply waltz in unchallenged.
Audi, for one, is planning to switch from its current A4 DTM to a new A5-based touring car, previewed in the renderings you see here. Like the stock cars we see racing around American super-speedways, DTM racers are only loosely based on their production counterparts, so the change in body shell – adopting the revised face of the new production A5 – is more aesthetic than anything.
But while the existing DTM drivetrain – consisting of a 460-horsepower V8 and six-speed transmission – is set to carry over largely unchanged, Audi’s new racer (internally dubbed R17) is expected to herald some significant changes over the car it replaces, complying to new lower-cost regulations and side-impact stringencies that will see the fuel cells integrated into the carbon-fiber monocoque. BMW M3 DTM Concept unveiled for the 2012 race
July 19th, 2011
BMW is returning to DTM, and well, of course they’ll have to prepare a new DTM ride for the show right? The company from Bavaria has lifted the covers off its M3 DTM Concept Car, which offers an initial impression of what the M3 DTM racer will look like when it lines up at the start of the 2012 season.
While the looks of the car will most likely change considerably up to its first race, the basic technical specs are pretty much set – among these, 480 hp with air restriction as per regulations from its 4.0 litre V8, which is mated to a sequential six-speed gearbox. Elsewhere, performance specs include a 0-100 kph time of about three seconds and an approximate 300 kph top speed.
There’s still a fair amount of work to be done on the car before it becomes the finished article. “Getting a new racing programme up and running is a bit like doing a jigsaw. New pieces are added almost every day, and we must put them together to create the big picture,” new BMW Motorsports director Jens Marquardt said. With the successful roll-out of the car comes a full test programme out on track next, as the development of the M3 DTM continues.
Three teams will be competing in the DTM for BMW next year, these being BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW Team RBM and BMW Team RMG. The exact allocation of drivers to the three teams will be made at a later date, though BMW Motorsport did announce Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus as the first two names of the driver lineup at the car’s unveiling. |
