1957 Ferrari 250 TR Prototype sells for record $16.39 million at Gooding's Pebble Beach auction

Prices for vintage Ferraris have escalated the last few years, with the more expensive models breaking records for the price of a car sold at auction. A 1961 Ferrari California Spyder sold for more than $10 million in 2008, and a 1957 Ferrari 250 TR went for more than $12 million in 2009. When auction house Gooding announced that it would be selling the recently restored 1957 Ferrari 250 TR prototype at this past weekend’s Pebble Beach sale, everyone is expecting yet another insane auction record.

And yes, a new record was created again, as a final bid of $14.9 million was offered for the car at Friday night’s auction. Taking into account Gooding’s ten percent selling fee, the final price rang in at an astounding $16.39 million.

AMD refreshes E and C-Series Fusion APUs

AMD has given its APUs some healthy refresh, much needed from what we see. The updated “Zacate” and “Ontario” APUs sport DDR-1333 and HDMI 1.4a support, snaring bragging rights to faster memory and 3D output for 3D-enabled televisions. The new chips also promise an increased resting battery life — up to 10.5 hours for the E-Series, and a staggering 12 hours on the C-Series. Although it didn’t name any specific manufacturers, AMD says that machines rocking the new APUs are available starting today.

iOS 5 beta 6 is out! And.. gets a Sn0wbreeze jailbreak, iPad 2 still stuck behind bars though...

Apparently, the iOS hacking community is not working for the weekend, judging by the two days it took to crack Apple’s latest beta wide open. iOS 5 Beta 6 was released on last Saturday, and finally it’s jailbroken. Maybe hackers do have some life after all. Available today, the Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 6 unlock tool can now give those of you with developer credentials jailbreak access to iOS 5 beta 6. From the looks of this release, the hack works on most iOS devices with the sole exception of the iPad 2 as usual. Hit the source link below if you really must have your i-device loaded with developer version iOS and jailbreaked, but do proceed with caution.

RIM to unleash redesigned BlackBerry App World 3.0 today

RIM to unleash redesigned BlackBerry App World 3.0 today

After launching their brand spanking new Torch and Bold, RIM is prepping to roll out a brand spanking new BlackBerry App World today. This new version will be version 3.0, and will feature a retooled interface for quick perusal of apps, games and themes — if the beta release is any indication. Right now we still don’t have any official news yet.

Another added feature is the My World storage folder that keeps all of your downloads on the home screen and lets you wirelessly reinstall them should you accidentally delete one or upgrade devices. Sure, there are rumblings that the BB music service will be a part of this release, but as Reuters reported, that announcement isn’t expected until early September.

Although, this update would complete the new smartphone trifecta rather nicely: new device, new OS and new app store.

GoPro releases final multi-angle edit of Monster Tajima’s record Pikes Peak run

GoPro releases final multi-angle edit of Monster Tajima's record Pikes Peak run

Nobuhiro Monster Tajima went to the 2011 Pikes Peak hill climb with a singular goal in mind: Run from start to finish in less than ten minutes. GoPro bet heavily on the Monster, and covered his car with a flock of logos and a gaggle of cameras.

The GoPro team worked quickly to put together video of the record-breaking run, but we knew they had more up their sleeve. After all, they mounted the compact cameras all over Tajima’s Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb Special, so we expected that footage to be put to good use. Well, our patience has been rewarded because the edits are done and the video is ready.

GoPro put ten cameras inside the Suzuki. It also stuck cameras at seemingly every turn, inside a helicopter, on the end of the checkered flag and even on the slim end of a celebratory champagne bottle. Monster Tajima may know how to tackle every angle of Pikes Peak, but it’s GoPro that knows how to cover them. Click past the jump for the video.

Thrustmaster unveils Ferrari F458 racing wheel and TH8 RS shifter, puts your Logitech to shame

Thrustmaster unveils Ferrari F458 racing wheel and TH8 RS shifter, puts your Logitech to shame

Tried playing Dirt 3 or Shift 2 on a keyboard? How about on a console controller? Thought about trying on the wheels instead? Well, those Momo racing wheels and those G27 ain’t gonna cut it fo`sho. You’ll need something more than just a wheel and a stick and pedal.

But fret not, Thrustmaster has announced the launch of its Ferrari 458 (F458) Italia Racing Wheel for Microsoft’s gaming console. The 11-inch wheel features a rubberized grip to stay comfy, built-in metal paddle shifters, a Manettino dial for mid-lap adjustments and progressive resistance to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Not wanting to leave PS3 and PC racers in its dust, the company also revealed the TH8 RS gear shifter — which connects to the T500 RS or the outfit’s other PC wheel controllers via USB. This bad boy lets you release your inner Michael Schumacher with either H-pattern or sequential configurations plus 360-degree rotation adjustment to tailor the gearbox to your liking.

Both the TH8 RS and the aforementioned F458 will be hitting your virtual garage in October for $180 and $90, respectively. Recaro bucket seat and seatbelts not included.
