Hitachi Ultrastar SSD400M Solid State Drive Based On 25nm MLC NAND Flash

Thought that being bought over by Western Digital, their development will slow down? Well that doesn’t seem to be the case. Hitachi today unveiled the Ultrastar SSD400M Solid State Drive, which makes use of Intel 25nm MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips and features a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) 6.0 Gbps interface. No SandForce controller here thought. Designed for enterprise users, this storage device has a 2.5-inch form factor and a MTBF of 2 million hours. It provides sequential read/write speeds of 495/385 MB/s and delivers up to 56,000 read, as well as 24,000 sustained write IOPS. The Hitachi Ultrastar SSD400M is currently available in 200GB and 400GB of storage capacities.

The IBM PC turns 30

Thirty years ago today IBM officially ushered in what many consider to be the modern computing era with the 5150. What ultimately became known simply as the IBM PC was the first machine to run a Microsoft operating system (the recently acquired PC-DOS) on an Intel processor (the 4.77MHz 8088) and inspired countless clones. The bare-bones model, which cost $1,565, was cheap enough to become a serious commercial success, and spawned an entire cottage industry of machines that touted their IBM-PC compatibility. We won’t spend too much time recounting the story of how IBM’s decision to build a computer with off the shelf components and commercially available software forged a standard whose descent survives to this day in the form of Wintel.

More details of Counter Strike: Global Offensive from pro players who tested the alpha build

Valve Software revealed the existence of the newest Counter-Strike today, but the company seemed a bit shy on specifics, saying that next year’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive would bring new weapons, gameplay modes and maps to the extremely popular competitive shooter.

Thankfully, some of Counter-Strike‘s most dedicated players, the professionally competitive type, are going hands-on with CS: GO this week at Valve HQ, giving us an early look at some of the game’s big changes.

ESEA News‘ Craig “Torbull” Levine offered up the game’s first in-depth hands-on report from a “pre-beta” build of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, writing that Valve is “keen on hearing the input from top [Counter-Strike Source] players to make CS GO an e-sports title.”
