Battlefield 3 will have 24 player team deathmatch

Battlefield 3′s team deathmatch mode will be a smaller, vehicle-less affair than the sprawling 64 player Conquest mode that the demo shown spectacularly at Gamescom last week. DICE confirmed to the BF3 blog that team deathmatch mode will support 24 player, infantry only scraps. It may be less than Conquest mode, but it’s a step above Battlefield: Bad Company 2′s 16 player contests.

Tank fans, fear not. There will be plenty of opportunity to run over cars, enemy soldiers and small animals in single player, and more exciting opportunities to shoot down jets in tanks, divebomb tanks in jets and fly jets into other jets in Battlefield 3′s biggest multiplayer maps. We recently learned that we’ll have to use the Battlelog website to access multiplayer. Battlefield 3 is out on October 25in the US, October 27 in Australia and October 28 in Europe.

Frankfurt preview: Ferrari 458 Spider is a bloody gorgeous sexy ride!

Ferrari will be debuting the world’s first mid-rear engined berlinetta equipped with a retractable hard top at the Frankfurt show next month – the 458 Spider is set to join the 458 Italia in the company’s lineup.

Power comes courtesy of a naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 offering 570 cheval vapeur (CV) – which works out to 562 hp – at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This is mated to a dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift seven-speed transmission with E-Diff, which integrates F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS.

The hard-top is made entirely of aluminium – the company says this offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a deployment time of just 14 seconds. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top fits neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or performance, or even space – there’s still a generous rear bench for luggage behind the seats.

Styling-wise, the rear of the car – which sits on 20-inch wheels and 235/35 front and 295/35 rear rubbers – is characterised by buttresses designed to optimise the flow of air to the engine intakes as well as the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.

For maximum comfort whilst driving top down, there’s a generously-sized adjustable electric wind stop, which slows and diffuse the air in the cockpit and allows normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h, even though chances are you won’t be talking that much at that point.

Ferrari says that technical solutions adopted for the chassis guarantee identical levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down, and that the engine soundtrack has been honed to ensure that the car’s occupants are completely captivated by the drop-top driving experience.

McAfee: Android Malware surges 76 percent in Q2

McAfee’s Q2 2011 results reveal that malware on Android shot up 76-percent thanks to its massive popularity. Even more, McAfee’s “Malware Zoo” is expected to reach 75 million inhabitants by the end of the year. No feeding the malware, please.

Google’s Android operating system has become quite popular with consumers and manufacturers alike, but it’s also becoming increasingly more popular with hackers. Tuesday McAfee released its McAfee Threats Report: Second Quarter 2011 (pdf) report which claims that the amount of malware targeted at Android devices jumped 76-percent since last quarter, making Google’s popular OS the most attacked mobile operating system ever.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be given the number of devices Android commands and its seemingly “open” nature. But if those numbers weren’t bad enough, McAfee’s report claims that 2011 has also resulted in the busiest ever first half-year in malware history, including a first-ever appearance of Mac fake AV and a significant uptick in rootkits.

Say goodbye to the rotary Mazda RX8

Say goodbye to the rotary Mazda RX8

Mazda, the Zoom-Zoom brand famous for its rotary engined sports cars, has decided stop making the RX-8, the only rotary powered model in its current range.

Factors linked to the death of the RX-8 are falling sales and stringent global emissions standards, which are only going to get tougher. Production has already stopped in early July, and global sales will end later this year.

This comes after the Hiroshima based carmaker pulled out the RX-8 from Europe last year, as the high-revving 1.3-litre, twin-rotor rotary engined car failed to meet EU emissions standards. Without European volume, Mazda couldn’t justify selling the four-seat RX-8, a Mazda source was quoted as saying.

Facebook implements new privacy features

One of the biggest gripes that I hear from people about Facebook is how they hate being tagged in random photos. Sure, tagging random people from your friends list might be a great way to publicize that brand new set of lingerie from Taiwan, or those sexy new tank tops which you have for sale at an awesome price, but tagging a guy on a dress just doesn’t make sense.

That’s set to change though thanks to the recent changes in Facebook’s privacy policies which were implemented earlier today.

A big part of today’s changes come in the form of tag approvals, while the rest revolve around tweaks to profile visibility, and status and location update visibility.

In fact, the Facebook team must have felt that there were too many changes to simply list out, so they even set up a tutorial which walks you through all these changes. However, if you rather skim through them in an easy to understand pictorial format, Mashable has a great post on the changes too.
