The Sims Social more active than Farmville on Facebook, Zynga still king

EA’s social-interaction-simulator-within-a-social-interaction-simulator The Sims Social has surpassed casual-gaming monolith Farmville in daily active users, according to Gamasutra. So far this month, The Sims Social has seen an average of 9.3 million active users per day, which play three-ish times a day in 15 to 20 minute increments.

Farmville’s figures hover slightly lower at a still-bewildering 8.1 million, but Zynga’s Cityville still holds the top slot with 13.9 million active users per day. The only Facebook app that sees more traffic than Cityville is Windows Messanger Live, which was a surprisingly explicit text-based role-playing game, last time we checked. So… add me!

Jaguar C-X16 Concept previews entry-level Porsche Cayman fighter

Jaguar C-X16 Concept previews entry-level Porsche Cayman fighter

Around this time last year, Jaguar unveiled the incredible C-X75 Concept at the Paris Motor Show. With four electric motors and two micro-gas turbines powering all four wheels, we knew the C-X75 had little chance of going to production – at least in concept form – let alone finding a place in our own garages.

Fast-forward a year later, and it’s an entirely different theme at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Earlier today, Jaguar revealed the C-X16 Concept in Germany ahead of its auto show debut tomorrow,.

Unlike the C-X75, the C-X16 is most definitely headed for production and could actually be fairly affordable. Although it looks like a replacement for the aging XK, it isn’t. In fact, a version of the C-X16 will actually slot below the XK to battle smaller sporty coupes like the Porsche Cayman.

Under the hood of the concept is a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 376 horsepower and 332 lb-ft torque, and an electric motor in the eight-speed transmission delivers another 92 horsepower and 173 lb-ft torque. Jaguar estimates that the C-X16 concept can achieve 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph.

White PS3 coming to Europe and Australia in November

There’s nothing a like an (almost) fresh and exciting color variant to make us totally forget about the PS4. The last hurrah before the end of its life, or is Sony not able to sell out all of ‘em despite the price slash? This new little white dazzler will come with a 320GB HDD and two equally white Dualshock controllers, which means you’ll only have to spray-paint your PS3 Move, headset, external drive, wheel and eyebrows to match. Look out for it at GameStop in the UK, Germany and possibly other Euro nations too, as well as at Electronic Boutique in Australia from November 1st — or just pre-order via the source links below.

Smartphones out-ship feature-phones in Europe, Samsung leads the way as Apple watches in envy

Smartphones out-ship feature-phones in Europe, Samsung leads the way as Apple watches in envy

A big surprise? Not entirely, it was probably gonna happen sooner or later, looking at the number of new smartphones being launched everywhere. A new report from IDC confirms it: smartphones are now out-shipping feature phones in western Europe.

According to the company’s statistics, only 20.4 million feature handsets were shipped to the Old World during the second quarter of this year, representing a 29 percent decrease from Q2 2010. Quarterly shipments of smartphones, on the other hand, increased by 49 percent to 21.8 million units, marking the first time that they’ve surpassed basic phone orders.

Smartphones also comprised 52 percent of all mobile shipments, which shrunk by three percent, collectively — something IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo attributes, in part, to Europe’s brutal economic climate and Nokia’s steep decline (see chart).

On the OS front, Android once again came out on top within the region, thanks to a whopping 352 percent year-to-year increase in shipments, while Samsung controlled the manufacturing side, with 33 percent of the European market.

Tokyoflash reveals Kisai Night Vision wristwatch

Tokyoflash reveals Kisai Night Vision wristwatch

Tokyoflash is on the loose once more, and this time it’s introducing a concept that has been in the works for months on end. The Kisai Night Vision — which was made official moments ago, first appeared on the company’s blog as a mockup in August of 2010 — and as they say, “what a difference a year makes.”

As of today, the LED wristwatch is up for grabs, constructed with black stainless steel, sub-surface LEDs, a hexagonal form factor and support for USB recharging. Despite your initial assumptions, it’s actually capable of displaying both time and date, and there’s even a built-in alarm with a “light-up animation.” Fancy! It’s available in black with blue, green or red LEDs.

If you order soon, you’ll be able to snag one for $129 / £79 / €89; procrastinators will face a sticker of $149 / £91 / €103.
