Angelbird's PCIe-based SSD is shipping now with 800MB/s

Angelbird unveiled the unique 1GB/s PCIe SSD system a year ago, and now finally the production version has arrived. The performance claims are more modest than we saw in the beta phase, but we’re not distraught: the new benchmark is 800MB/s reads and 750MB/s writes, achieved with a $3000 setup including four 240GB SSD modules mounted on a Wings PCI-e card with a 32GB SSD built-in. Need to hold something back for groceries? You can’t reduce the number of SSDs without slowing everything down, but four 60GB drives on the cheapest Wings Lite PCIe card ought to satisfy most thrill seekers for just under a grand.

Mercedes-Benz F125! gullwing fuel cell concept leaks ahead of Frankfurt

Omni Auto reports that Mercedes-Benz will debut the F 125! gullwing coupe concept seen here at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Omni Auto, the F 125! concept showcases M-B’s design direction for the 2025 CL-Class. It’s unknown if the German automaker intends to make a production CL that’s fueled by hydrogen, but if the German automaker does, then Omni Auto says it’s likely that the setup featured in the F 125! that will be used.

In this case, that means four electric motors cranking out a combined 231 horsepower. That level of grunt allows the F 125! to hit a top speed of 137 miles and zip from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. According to Omni Auto’s leaked information, Benz says the F 125! consumes 0.79 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometers and that the stylish coupe can travel up to 621 miles on a full tank.

GameStop testing its own Android gaming tablet

GameStop testing its own Android gaming tablet

We already know that Amazon is hard at work on an Android-skinned tablet of their own, and now we can safely add yet another Android tablet into the market. GameStop announced its intentions to become a technology company way back in April, so it’s less surprising than it should be to hear that the company is planning an own tablet based on Google’s Android OS. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, GameStop president Tony Bartel revealed that the company has already chosen the tablet it will be using as its own-brand slate and it will be an Android device.

“I don’t see any need to create a new one with the three hundred or so on the market already,” Bartel told GamesIndustry. “We have a refurbishment center and we can bring in the product and preload certain games onto it. It’s an Android device. We definitely have selected one,” he added.

Bartel went on to say that GameStop is two weeks into the testing phase of what its calling the “GameStop certified gaming platform” and that the company is excited at the prospect of launching the device. He added that there will also be benefits to the tablet hat customers won’t get anywhere else.

“We looked at all the tablets and these are the ones that really worked for gaming and we’re going to give you a few benefits that you’re not going to get elsewhere.”

Content for the tablets will be mobile games and, eventually, full console titles with the help of GameStop-owned streaming company Spawn Labs and a specially-designed controller.

Intel reveals January 2012 Gingerbread arrival for the Atom E6xx

Intel reveals January 2012 Gingerbread arrival for the Atom E6xx

Intel wants a piece of the smartphone market, and they want it so bad. The mobile market has been in the palm of ARM, with Qualcomm and Nvidia fighting for the crown, which seemed like a goldmine to Intel. The company has made no bones about its attempts to break into that booming space.

Despite big talk, however, it hasn’t really given smartphone manufacturers something they can work with. A new promotional video for its pint-sized Atom E6xx series, however, reveals that chipmaker may be taking a step in the right direction, highlighting a January 2012 date for bringing Android 2.3 to the processor.

Keep in mind, of course, that this isn’t a smartphone chip that we’re talking about here — the primary applications as outlined by Intel are retail, fitness equipment, digital signage and in-vehicle systems. Something very small, like an embedded system. Still, perhaps it marks a next step in the company’s push toward your mobile devices, or moreover, a shift for Android into more non-mobile things.

Next-Generation’s iPhone 5 and 4S Parts Exposed

Next-Generation's iPhone 5 and 4S Parts Exposed

A new iPhone is coming, and it’s overdue. It must be close, though, as there are lots of hardware leaks that appear to be related to an unreleased iPhone product. We suspect that these leaks come from component manufacturers in China, though hopefully no Foxconn workers get into trouble this time around.

MacPost shows an N94 casing in both black and white, with the latter link having pictures to many other components. MacRumors has what looks like a redesigned external antenna for a future iPhone.

While the leaked components look very much like an iPhone 4, leaked cases indicate that the next iPhone could be a thinner, but bigger device to accommodate a bigger screen.

As is always the case, there’s no way to verify whether these parts are made for Apple, or just for an elaborate copycat device. Even if they are meant for an iPhone, rumors suggest that Apple could be making an iPhone 4S entry-level device that will complement the higher-end iPhone 5.

The rumor mill is certainly churning though. Check out what might be the first photo shot with an iPhone 5.
