Hidden within Nokia’s Future Lounge, this very flexible display offers up a glimpse of what sort of thing we could possibly be seeing in Nokia World in 2021. The prototype Nokia Kinetic Device, including its display, can be flexed across both the vertical and horizontal planes — with bending and twisting motions controlling the interface.

If you bend the screen towards yourself, it acts as a selection function, or zooms in on any pictures you’re viewing. In music mode, you can navigate, play and pause with the tactile interface. It’s still a way off from arriving on phones, though Nokia is aiming to whet developers’ appetites with this prototype.

We may have seen some twisty interfaces already, but nothing packing a four-inch screen and built-in functionality like this. Nokia couldn’t confirm the screen technology being used. Could that be a flexible AMOLED display from Samsung?

Finally, here it is. The flagship device Nokia is counting on to bring a smile to our phone-loving faces, a sigh of relief to its shareholders, and a twinkle to the eyes of Finnish tax collectors everywhere. And, guess what? This heavily leaked handset might just live up to our high expectations.
From the outside, the Lumia 800 is very similar to the beloved N9. Dubbed the “first real Windows Phone,” this device is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU and is sculpted from the same 12.1mm (0.48-inch) thick piece of durable polycarbonate plastic, with tapered edges on the top and bottom to give it that industrial look and make it feel thinner than it really is.

Two major CPU cooler manufacturers, Noctua and Thermaltake, are offering their users a free upgrade mounting kit for the LGA-2011 socket. If you look at the differences between the LGA-2011 and LGA-1366 socket, the first thing you see is the lack of mounting holes on the LGA-2011 motherboard. On current gen Intel motherboards, the CPU cooler mounting bracket passes through the motherboard and is retained by either push-pins or variations of backplates and mounting screws. The LGA-2011 socket will utilize the CPU retention bracket for the mounting of the CPU cooler through threaded tabs. These changes will require users to make a switch to a new bracket for mounting their coolers on the new LGA-2011 socket.
Thermaltake and Noctua are offering a free mounting kit upgrade for the LGA-2011 socket. There are specific requirements that each manufacturer requires the users to meet for the upgrade on selected CPU coolers.

Zalman has officially released the CNPS12X CPU cooler, with its three … yes, I said … three 120mm fans and two circular VFP dual heatsinks. In before “Is that a jetplane I heard in your computer?”
This massive cooler measures in at 5.95 (L) x 5.20 (W) x 6.06 (H) inches, weighs 2.2 pounds and has three 120mm Long Life Bearing fans boasting blue LEDs. The fans have two fan modes – Quiet (850 to 1100 RPM operating speed, up to 22 dBA output sound) and Performance (950 to 1200 RPM / up to 24 dBA).
The CNPS12X features a VFP (Variable Fin Profile) dual heatsink, which is almost identical to the design utilized on the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler. The cooler uses a W-DTH (Whole-Direct Heatpipes) base to go along with six composite heatpipes that have a transfer capacity 50 percent better when compared to ordinary Sintered-type heatpipes.
VFP Dual Heatsink
Optimized dual heatsink, applying V.F.P(Variable Fin Profile) technology, maximized it’s performance through dual air-intake structure that increase Air Flow.
- Radiator Surface Area : 9,635cm3
- Noise : 22dBA ±10% (with RC5)
W-DTH Base applied
As applying W-DTH(Whole-Direct Heatpipes) technology, heatpipes in the Base Cover touch the CPU directly and transfer the CPUs heat directly to heatpipes, hereby minimizing heat resistance and maximizing cooling performance in a short time.

The CNPS12X supports Intel LGA 775/1155/1156/1366/2011 and AMD Socket AM2(+)/AM3(+)/FM1 processors, is bundled with a syringe full of ZM-STG2 thermal grease, and can be found for pre-order at around $92.
You can see a review of the cooler at benchmark.pi (Review in Polish) & visit the product page for more details.

A US Patent granted today (October 25) will send Google and Android phone makers around the world reaching for their lawyers.
Patent 8,046,721 is quite dull, but all-embracing in that special way that patents have become in America: “A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device.
The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.”
Read it again if you need to, but to our eyes, it looks like this. If you:
- Unlock a device using a gesture on a touch-sensitive display;
- Display an icon telling punters they have to unlock the device;
- Design the icon to tell users which direction they have to swipe the icon to unlock the device;
or
- Provide visual cues for users too dumb to remember the unlock gesture;
…then you’d be breaching the patent.
While we can’t speak for every single Android phone or tablet in the world – not to mention other flavours of device – the one’s we can immediately call to mind use unlock gestures pretty much like the ones described in this patent.

Lexus is set to unveil the F Sport version of its new GS sedan at the SEMA show in Las Vegas on November 1. The GS F Sport features bolder exterior design elements than its civilian counterpart, and these include a new front bumper design with larger side grilles, as well as a dedicated mesh design for the upper and lower grilles.
At the rear, the F Sport gets a grey metallic finish to the bumper diffuser, and on the GS 450h F Sport there’s an additional chrome moulding on the bumper’s lower section. The package also includes a rear spoiler and – exclusive to the grade – dark metallic finish 19-inch alloy wheels, wearing staggered width rubbers – 235/40 in front, and 265/35 series at the rear.

See those boxes up there? They appear to contain a yet-to-be-announced QWERTY phone. We were able to get a quick glance at the phones from above as Nokia reps were discretely unpacking boxes for that little three-wheeled vehicular contraption parked behind the boxes. Another picture (after the break) reveals a red portrait QWERTY along with the tagline “You. Me. Everyone. Let’s QWERTY,” along with a model number covered up by a white piece of paper.
It appears that this one may be the Nokia 303 leaked a couple weeks ago, which seems to be a low-end Series 40 6th Edition Touch-and-Type device. We know it includes WiFi and 3G connectivity, social functions and comes in colors (at least red and gray).
Nokia World’s keynote is running right now, so I’m pretty sure we’ll know more about this phone very soon.
