Apple has now fitted their Mac Pro with a Mac OS X server operating system, and calling it the Mac Pro Server. It’s going to ship standardly “in two to four weeks’ time”. Read more…

2010 MacBook Air ships with some problems

Wow, this sure doesn’t look good for Apple. Did you know that Apple released a software update on the first day of its new MacBook Air to patch up the system from locking up while in iMovie? Well, that’s not all. Apparently there’s a display flickering problem with the new Air too, besides some kernel errors that occur when the machines are trying to come out of sleep mode. And the list goes on. Things don’t look quite good for Apple, though they still yet to release an official response. Read more…

Apple quietly cuts Mac mini prices in Europe

Apple quietly cuts Mac mini prices in Europe

Maybe this is the result of Intel lowering their processor’s price, or they’re clearing stock to update the Mac Mini with better processor? Or perhaps due to weaker dollar? Who knows? All we know is, Apple has cut the price for their little Mac Mini in Europe. That’s €100 in Europe and by £50 in the UK. Well, the Americans can only look in envy, as they wait their turn. Now, we’ll anxiously see if the Asian countries get their fair share of this price cut too. Great news, if you want a sweet HTPC that’s good looking and capable of playing 1080p content to your huge ass TV. We all know the Apple TV can’t, at least Apple’s saying they can’t.

Office 2011 for Mac goes official

Yes, we’ve been using Office 2010 for quite some time now, but Microsoft sure has not forgotten the Mac users. Steve Jobs don’t want you to mess with his Air…

Steve Jobs don’t want you to mess with his Air…

Obviously, the naughty hands over at iFixit rushed to get hold of the MacBook Air that was just launched. But somehow, they find it pretty frustrating, though not that hard still, to open up the new ‘Air’. Here’s the highlight given by iFixit:

  • The flip-open port door has been scrapped and the IR sensor and sleep LED are gone. In exchange, the new model manages to fit an extra USB 2.0 port along its right edge.
  • Apple apparently doesn’t want you inside this thing. They decided to use proprietary 5-point security Torx screws to attach the lower case. Once inside, the Air is held together with more normal 6-point T5 and T8 Torx screws.
  • The battery is comprised of six individual lithium-polymer cells, which combine to form a 35 Watt-hour battery.
  • Although in a different form factor, the new MacBook Air uses the same Broadcom BCM943224 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip as the current lineup of MacBook Pros.
  • The back of the trackpad has a Broadcom BCM5976A0K chip on it, likely responsible for the multi-touch capabilities of the the trackpad.
  • The 11.6″ MacBook Air features a resolution of 1366×768. That’s a few more pixels and noticeably more widescreen (16×9 vs 16×10) than the 1280×800 resolution of previous Air models. In a welcome improvement, Apple has substantially enhanced the rigidity of the display assembly.

MacBook Pro updated with optional 2.8GHz Core i7 processor

While everyone is paying attention to Apple’s “Back to the Mac” press conference, Apple slyly updated their MacBook Pro lineup, which wasn’t announced in the conference. Specifically, the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro laptops can now be had with a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor, a bump from the previous 2.66GHz processor model. That’ll top up about $200 more (or RM644) than the previous top-of-the-line i7 processor offered. Read more…
