FaceTime coming to OS X, beta is out!

The FaceTime for Mac will be a standalone app instead of sharing the same platform as the iChat AV. Users can use their Mac’s Address Book and make calls right from the app. Is Apple trying to kill off Skype from the Mac? The app automatically adjusts the display pending on the other end’s display, whether it’s portrait or landscape. There’s also full screen mode to go to. Try it out!

Apple’s new MacBook Air, a fraction pound lighter

Yes, ‘Back to the Mac’ event is supposed to be about software and the lion, but there’s also some room for an envelope too. Well, the MacBook Air carries the ‘Mac’ name on it too, so there’s no harm letting it get some spotlight on the huge projection of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs says the new MacBook Air is a hooked up offspring from the old MacBook Air and the iPad. What does he mean? Read more…

Apple TV hits 250,000 in sales, says Steve Jobs

Not impressed by Steve Jobs’s miniature glossy Apple TV? Well, let the numbers convince you once again. Straight from the mouth of CEO Steve Jobs: “I can report that we’ve sold a quarter million Apple TVs.” That’s 250,000 if you weren’t sure of the numbers. That’s quite an impressive number for a device that’s only been shipped for 18 days. But if you compare it to Apple’s other staggering numbers of 300,000 iPad sold on day one, and millions of iPhone sold on day one, it’s still getting dwarfed by its siblings.

Last call for HyperMac charging cables

Last call for HyperMac charging cables

And it seemed they lost the battle. HyperMac just announced that it will cease the sale of MacBook charging cables and car chargers for the moment — on November 2nd at 00:00 US Pacific Time. There’s no mention of whether they will be back for sell or not, as Sanho tried to negotiate with Apple. While the HyperMac batteries will be sold, you won’t be able to charge your MagSafe-equipped MacBook without the cable. Sounds abit blatant. This is obviously the direct result of the paten-infringement lawsuit that Apple throws over at Sanho regarding their unlicensed use of Apple’s MagSafe power connector. Read more…

Apple to hold 'Back to the Mac' event on October 20th

Apple’s going to hold a press conference on the 20th of this month at Cupertino, titled “Back to the Mac”. If you look at the cut – out logo of the Apple, there’s a lion sneaking behind. So they probably won’t be talking about the new Macbook Air, or would they? But we can be sure they’ll share some info on the next version of OSX, which would be 10.7. A lion? Sure! Well, Snow Leopard was previewed for a year before it actually hit the stores, so it’s possible for Steve Jobs to do some ‘rawr’ talking this 20th.

Apple TV can play 1080p content from iTunes, but still only outputs 720p

Apple TV can play 1080p content from iTunes, but still only outputs 720p

The story here is the latest Apple TV (the black one) is able to accept Full HD videos (1080p movies content) coming in from iTunes. But that’s it. The story stops there. That’s because the 1080p content will still be downscaled to 720p on your screen. What a bummer. Why doesn’t Apple just enable 1080p content playing? Overheating issue? Well at least the good news here is that you don’t have to reconvert your 1080p glory porns to 720p. Perhaps the jailbreak community will be able to let us does just that?

Mac OS X Leopard installed on HTC Shift, but no Wi-Fi

Mac OS X Leopard installed on HTC Shift, but no Wi-Fi

Sometimes we have to respect hackers. They gave us the jailbreaked iPhone, and many else. They’re the kind of guy who spends countless hours for their self-funded projects, just to prove a point to the world.

Thanks to dedicated code junkies over at XDA developers, HTC’s ill-fated Shift is getting a new lease on life by showing its ability to run OS X 10.5.6. Sadly, it looks as if an upgrade to Snow Leopard is out of the question due to some file changes between 10.5 and 10.6, but the biggest killer is the current build’s inability to provide Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. The guidelines to follow suit are right there in the source link, but good luck making good use of this without cordless access to the World Wide Web.

MacBook Air due replaced, get shrunken?

September 25th, 2010

MacBook Air due replaced, get shrunken?

Well this is not a shocker. The MacBook Air has been around for some time, and it’s about time the Air gets some shower. But shrinking it? Apple Insider cited a source in Taiwan that an 11.6-inch LED-backlit display will be heading into the long overdue update for the MacBook Air. The reason behind this move is that the shrinking plan comes in order to “better differentiate it from the MacBook Pro line which carries quite a huge similarity”. What’s more, DigiTimes also stated that Quanta have an order to build up to half a million 11.6-inch “MacBooks” for Apple in 2010. Well Apple, how about another update on this upcoming holiday eh?

ColorWare made your Magic Trackpad like a super miniature golf course

Well, almost. There’s no harm in ordering a pink magic trackpad from ColorWare to match your ‘all pink bling bling’ setup. But I bet you many would be asking if you’re an air head for spending $75 for a paint-job on such a small thing. Crazy right? But you just got to have the perfect color match for your perfect desktop setup, so I won’t blame you, unlike your wallet.
