Hardware Acceleration now available on Flash for Mac

All these while the Snow Leopard wasn’t able to have a nice Flash playback if it’s a tough one, but Mac users can now stop being jealous that Windows fans are enjoying hardware-accelerated video decoding because the updated Adobe Flash Player finally brings GPU decoding to OS X. I guess there’s some love from Adobe after all, Steve!

Apple TV renamed iTV, no longer shows Full HD

Apple TV renamed iTV, no longer shows Full HD

Apple TV has been around collecting dust, and the gang at Cupertino has been tweaking it. But tweaking doesn’t seem to be going very well actually. Engadget has a source that says the upcoming release will have something similar to the iPhone 4, which means an A4 CPU with near 1GHz speed, 16GB of flash storage, and perhaps 512MB of memory. There’s even a possibility of new iTunes streaming services that the box could take advantage of. But the sad news to this update is that there won’t be Full HD support. The new version could only punch out 720p quality videos. But this is very doubtful of being hardware limited, or locked down internally for some stupid reasons like overheat perhaps. This is because the iPhone 3GS can play back full HD videos with no sweat.

But the good thing is that this new update will have support for apps, and presumably an App Store entry. Apple is also officially changing the name of the device to iTV, abandoning the current moniker in favor of something more in line with its current i-device lineup names.

MouseGuards is here to protect your white mouse!

MouseGuards is here to protect your white mouse!

I do understand that many would protect their new beloved toys from getting all dirty and scratched up. I also personally have some experience in getting my mouse scratched. The Razer DeathAdder is a great mouse, but I’ve seen many users scratched up their mouse. I’ve even seen once a DA got so badly scratched, I thought it was used by Wolverine! Alas, no matter how careful I am when handling my beloved mouse that I use nearly every day, I still landed a scratch on it, making a bad scar, albeit tiny, on the special Razer rubber coating. Therefore I can’t really say it’s too extreme when the gang from Moshi Monde actually announce the MouseGuards for the Apple Magic Mouse.

I’m not so sure whether the Apple Magic Mouse glossy white surface can be easily scratched, but it’s a good idea to put a ‘screen protector’ onto your sexy multitouch mouse. They’re a form-fitting thin film, that not only protects the surface of the mouse from every day wear and tear abuse, but they also have a special texture that somehow provide a better grip than the Magic Mouse itself, which I surely don’t feel surprise. But for a mere $15 is all it takes to protect my mighty white mouse, I’m all for it!

Safari 5 just got an additional 0.0.1

Safari 5 just got an additional 0.0.1

Apple’s seriously on a steam roll this week, and their Safari 5′s extension support just got a whole lot more useful this morning, as Apple’s just released Safari 5.0.1. This small update enables the extension support for end users. Besides the update, Apple has also opened its official Extension Gallery. Extensions can be installed from anywhere, but you might see the Gallery as the iPhone’s App Store, but for browser.

It seemed decently stocked at launch, with notable entries from Amazon, eBay, Bing, MLB.com, the New York Times, and Twitter. These extensions are actually built in HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, therefore we should be able to see the Extension Gallery growing massively over time. Perhaps it’s a new way for Apple to announce “We hit 1 million extension download! Yey!” in a cool press conference.

Apple's trackpad gives you multitouch experience on a desktop

Apple’s product update frenzy doesn’t just stop on their computers. There’s a new unique product coming from Apple, and it’s very Apple-ish of kush. It’s Apple’s Magic Trackpad, and as the name says, it’s something similar to your notebook’s touchpad, but independent of itself, and supports Apple’s multitouch function, as expected. It’s wireless through Bluetooth and works on any Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer, and is glass-covered, with aluminium-shelled body.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Rumors has it that Apple has finish furbishing their Snow Leopard’s fifth maintenance release, the Mac OS X 10.6.5, and is ready for beta testing by third-party developers. When will it begin, and how long will the testing duration be, is totally up to our wildest guess, but wind has it that developers might see it as early as this week, so it should be any time now.
