Assassin’s Creed Revelation was the main title for Ubisoft during E3, but that’s not the only title that they’re bringing to the show. Also announced on Monday was the third installment to the Far Cry franchise, Far Cry 3. Development is led by Ubisoft Montreal with the support of Ubisoft Shanghai and Massive Entertainment. The game is slated to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC sometime during 2012.
“With Far Cry 3, players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a man alone at the edge of the world, stranded on a mysterious tropical island. In this savage paradise where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing, players dictate how the story unfolds, from the battles they choose to fight to the allies or enemies they make along the way,” reads the game’s description. “As Jason Brody, players will slash, sneak, detonate and shoot their way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of right and wrong.”
Little else is known about the shooter for now. However, Ubisoft released a batch of screens for your viewing pleasure until additional details are released either during E3 2011, or later on this year. Read more…
Speaking at EA’s ongoing E3 press conference, Mass Effect project lead Casey Hudson announced that the third installment of the space-faring series would debut on March 6, 2012. So if you let Mordin die, now’s the time to start your previous game and fix your horrible mistake.
After being introduced in 2009, the MMO that BioWare promised, Star Wars: The Old Republic is finally coming, and it’s exclusively downloadable on EA’s download portal, Origin.
The Sith have returned, the Republic is in grave danger, a Smuggler comes into his own, and war is waged with the same weapons they’ll be using thousands of years in the future. Yep, this is definitely Star Wars. It’s even got someone fending off enemy forces using a turret while the good-hearted scoundrel waits for the warp engines to power up.
The story is vaguely familiar, but the action is wonderful. Now if only the actual game was this exciting. It’s nice, to be sure, but you don’t get to feeling like a tough-as-nails Smuggler by clicking several hundred times in a row.
There’s no denying it now: Blizzard is getting ready to develop a PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3, as a recent job listing is calling for a senior software engineer – a PlayStation 3 specialist specifically – to be a key contributor on the Diablo 3 development team. This clearly solidifies Blizzard’s plan to bring the action/RPG franchise to the consoles even though the company claims that it’s merely “investigating” that avenue.
News of the PS3 hiring follows a previous job listing for a console developer that appeared back in February. “Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a highly organized individual with outstanding communications and project management skills for the Diablo team,” the description read at the time. “The ideal candidate has prior experience in console game development and has a keen knowledge of how each discipline operates and interacts. Self-direction and follow-up skills are a must, as well as the ability to anticipate production issues and find effective solutions.” Read more…
Lots of games being announced today due to E3, and this time we have news for the racing sim for Xbox, Forza 4! Forza 4 will arrive at retailers on October 11, as announced during this morning’s E3 2011 Microsoft press conference. A Turn 10 rep took to the stage to detail the game’s new features, including a slew of community items and the Kinect functionality. Other than a new teaser, however, the most pertinent news was the game’s planned October launch. Will this be able to take on GT5?
Infinity Ward has showcased a full ‘Black Tuesday’ gameplay footage over at E3 to justify all the criticism the game is taking over the Internet, especially with Battlefield 3’s epic 13-minute actual-game footage. The game doesn’t seem that bad at all. Let’s check it out!
As part of Microsoft’s Kinect-centric extravaganza during the opening moments of its E3 2011 press conference, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was announced to include both gesture and voice recognition. A particularly neat demo saw a player navigating a weapon customization system using a wave of his arms, tearing apart guns and putting them back together, Minority Report-style. Players can also give commands in this menu — like “Randomize,” to automatically put a weapon together. Read more…
Microsoft surprised everyone with the announcement of Halo 4 at their E3 keynote. The game will take on a new story which is planned for a trilogy apparently, and is being developed by 343 Industries (well, most of Bungies went over to 343 Industries anyway). The game was given a Holiday 2012 launch date, so there’s still quite some time to go. Oh Microsoft, why no love for PC yet again?
As you can see above, Need for Speed: The Run is about more than just driving cars across the United States as fast as possible. Apparently, it’s also about hopping out of your car and running like hell while all sorts of madness chases after you.
During EA’s E3 2011 presser, a controller-laden developer took the reins and, well, ran as fast as possible, eventually leaping from a building as a helicopter fired on him. He then snagged a cop car and took off as the helicopter continued after him, all the while dropping bullets by the boatload. So yes, you’ll totally be able to run around on two feet in Need for Speed: The Run, as well as spin out on four tires. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Yes… I’m hearing a “GTA” somewhere around… let’s hope there’s no prostitute in this game.
Following in the grand tradition of every trailer for every other game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ E3 debut video is a slick production. We don’t know who’s in charge of picking musical accompaniment over there, but they deserve a million dollar raise. There’s also a brief bit about the game’s Signature Edition, a pre-order upgrade which unlocks an exclusive single-player mission, multiplayer character and a handful of other goodies. And oh, the moment Ezio pulls that arrow off, that’s totally “like a boss” there man!
