On Wednesday AOC launched the e2352Phz, a 23-inch HD monitor that promises “flicker-free” 3D by using the company’s FPR 3D technology. AOC says the tech will eliminate annoying eye fatigue and dizziness that typically occurs when viewing 3D monitors offered by rival manufacturers.

“AOC’s new flicker-free 3D monitor lets you experience what 3D was meant to be – with clear, bright and vivid images that make your display come to life,” said Robert Velez, AOC Marketing Manager. “Whether you are gaming on your computer or watching your favorite movie, this high quality 23-inch monitor can’t be beat in terms of value, features and price point.”

The device specs claim the monitor offers crisp, clean image quality with 20,000,000:1 DCR and 5 ms response time, the ability to display more than 16.7 million colors, built-in speakers and a built-in VESA stand for desktop placement or wall mounting. Other specs include direct insert I/O for easy plug-in, HDMI 1.4a input, 2D-to-3D image conversion, and EPEAT certification. It also comes packed with two pairs of polarized glasses — one full set and one clip-on.

“While conventional 3D systems require more hardware and are more costly, the AOC 3D monitor is simple to set up with plug-and-play connection to any PC and even easily converts pictures, games and videos from 2D to 3D,” the company said. “Additionally, the HDMI input can be directly connected to multiple devices like console game players and Blu-ray players.”

The AOC 3D Monitor (e2352Phz) is now available for $299 at TigerDirect.com and BestBuy.com, among other retailers.

On display at the Samsung booth at CES 2012 is the SUR40, which is a 1080p 40-inch LCD that runs the latest Microsoft Surface software.

It’s not going to make anyone want to ditch their iPad, Android tablet or even the cheap PlayBooks and TouchPads they’re using for couchside browsing, but then again, those aren’t huge like Surface. You’ll likely find this in business trying to show off their products in a new and innovative way.

The world’s smallest and thinnest 4K x 2K monitor? According to Panasonic, you’re looking at it. It’s a 20.4-inch IPS LCD monitor, and so for those that can do math, that’s an array of 8.29 million pixels and vibrant from all angles thanks to IPS-Pro technology. That’s great Panasonic, but put it in a tablet or a laptop and we’ll show you the greenbacks.

The 4K2K IPS Alpha LCD panel employs two new technologies, “Pixel structure with ultra-high aperture ration structure” and “New liquid-crystal molecular orientation process technology”.

Panasonic’s new technologies enable viewers to enjoy, from any angle, ultra-high definition videos that show fine lines and texts crisp and clear on the screen and faithfully reproduce lifelike images with subtle textures and even a sense of depth.

With the evolution of technology, flat-panel displays are now available in ultra-high definition, 3D and a variety of screen sizes. As a result, the flat-panel display market has been growing, in response to rising demand for consumer products such as TVs and mobile terminals and professional applications in the medical, educational and commercial fields.

Earlier this week AOC introduced a 22-inch monitor (e2251Fwu) that draws its power and signal through a USB port. This $199 plug-and-play panel is scheduled to be shown next week during CES 2012, but won’t see an actual retail release until February 2012.

According to the specs, the 22-inch AOC USB Monitor will support a 1920 x 1080 resolution @ 60 Hz, and will be compatible with Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 & Apple MAC OSX Tiger / Leopard and Lion — Linux support is also available through many of the standard distributions. The display will also be HDCP compatible and have an ultra-slim form factor, measuring just 10.6-mm thin.

As for other specs, the display will feature a brightness of 250cd, a 20,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, a 5ms response time, and LED-based backlighting that allows it to consume 50-percent less energy than many CCFL backlit monitors. A removable stand even allows it to “instantly transform into a digital photo frame or presentation display.”

“Every AOC monitor is manufactured to meet the most stringent green standards,” the company said. “Along with being mercury free, the packaging for the eco-friendly 22-inch USB Monitor is made from recycled materials. In addition, AOC’s industry-leading LED display technology allows for a powerful and crystal clear display while minimizing power consumption.”

Those heading to CES 2012 next week can check out the new 22-inch USB-based monitor at the Bellagio, Monet 3 Ballroom. The company didn’t state an actual release date for the monitor in its announcement, so stay tuned for more info.

This cool hybrid setup combines a 23-inch Full HD monitor with an iPod dock, allowing users to pipe video, audio and pictures straight to the bigger LCD screen.

Looking for a cool dock for your new iPod Touch or iPhone 4S? AOC plans to ship the Aire Monitor with Docking Station this March if you can wait that long, a 23-inch Full HD 1080p monitor that features a built-in universal docking station for iPod and iPhone owners.

What makes this an awesome setup is that video, audio and photo playback is instantly piped to the 23-inch LCD via AOC’s “patented” plug-and-play technology. The base of the monitor even includes built-in 10w speakers with high quality SRS Premium Sound.

“The Aire Monitor with Docking Station is the ideal multimedia solution for iPhone and iPod users who want to watch movies or browse photos on a 23-inch high definition flat screen directly from their mobile device,” said Robert Velez, Marketing Manager of AOC. “The monitor displays photos and video content on a screen that is 37 times larger than the iPhone that it comes from.”

According to the specs, the monitor/dock hybrid will be Windows 7 compatible and measure just 12.9-mm thin. It will also sport a 50,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, a 5ms response time, a 250 cd/m² typical brightness, and 16.7 million colors.

As for other notable features, the monitor’s Dynamic Contrast Boost will create five different color enhancement settings and allow for color adjustment in highlighted areas. It will also have a user-friendly graphical OSD menu that can be accessed directly through the mouse. The embedded Screen+ software will even allow the user to divide the screen into four self-contained work areas.

“Along with being EPEAT Silver Certified for its green packaging and production, the monitor is also equipped with multiple power-saving features for reduced environmental impact, while the LED backlight is completely Mercury free,” the company said on Friday. “An Off Timer allows users to set an alarm clock to turn of the monitor automatically, and the eSaver feature has preset power conservation modes for the display when the PC is not in use.”

The 23-inch AOC Aire Monitor with Docking Station (e2343Fi) will be available for $279.99 at national retailers in March 2012. It will also be showcased at the Bellagio, Monet 3 Ballroom, at the International CES 2012, January 10-13, 2012.

What good is the biggest and fanciest TV when it doesn’t come complimented with equally good home theater systems? LG Electronics just announced in CES four new home theater systems, all equipped with the company’s latest 3D sound technology.

Designed to enhance your 3D experience when used together with LG’s CINEMA 3D Smart TV, the four new 3D Sound Home Theater models are expected to be available during the first half of the year with the BH9420PW as the first to be unveiled at CES 2012.

“Whether it’s TVs or audio systems, LG continues to offer the most immersive 3D home entertainment experience possible. Our CINEMA 3D Smart TVs will now be accompanied by a wider variety of CINEMA 3D Sound Home Theater products that offer consumers a complete 3D experience and further strengthen LG’s leadership in 3D.” – Havis Kwon, president and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company.

The best thing about 3D is the ability to show depth in images. With LG’s very own 3D Sound Zooming technology, you can also experience the depth of sound as it constantly synchronizes sound output with the location and movement of the on-screen 3D image. In turn, 3D Sound Zooming plunges the viewer into the middle of the action, as the events that unfold on their 3D TVs immerse and surround the viewers as both images and sound in real 3D. 3D Sound Zooming is capable of generating variety of depth in sound based on a complex algorithm that analyzes the varying depth of numerous on-screen objects displayed on the 3D TV.

Moreover, by applying LG’s unique 3D effect DSP algorithm, the Sound Field Expansion technology further expands the horizontal sound field, and works in harmony with the Upright 3D Speakers to create a truly immersive, 360 º sound experiences. Additionally, the audio “sweet spot” is further extended so viewers always feel as if they are right in the middle of the action, regardless of their location in a living room.

In order to provide viewers with a wide range of 3D experiences, the BH9420PW is equipped with a Smart TV function. In turn, any ordinary 3D TV can have access to LG’s Smart TV ecosystem, which is composed of a growing variety and quantity of 3D content through various premium content services and apps, such as LG’s 3D Zone.

The BH9420PW will hit stores in March 2012.

For the series 7 HDTV, it comes in 2 flavours, the 24inch or 27inch and has a built in TV tuner as well as WiDi and MHL built in. THose will retail for about US$600 from March. Don’t need the HDTV tuner and WiDi? For US$50 less you can get the Series 7 Smart Station.

DisplaySearch vice president David Hsieh said that TV panel makers will be introducing new sizes in an effort to reduce costs and increase the “value” of LCD TVs. The new sizes will include 36.5-inch W, 39-inch W, 43-inch W, 48-inch W, and 50-inch W. There will also be new backlight designs, including direct-type LED backlights, thick backlights, and scanning backlights.

In particular the 2012 TV lineup will see brightness reduction, LED package reduction, new slim bezel borders, timing controller reallocation, new PSU designs, as well as thick direct-lit CCFL backlight and thick direct-lit LED backlight development and integration. 2012 could bring a fundamental change to the way TVs are being developed and sold. Instead of bringing the latest and greatest and face immediate price erosion, the industry may be looking at new form factors and more cost-efficient production.

Hsieh thinks that some regions of the world may not care so much about the thickness of a TV and some additional screen sizes may fit better in smaller living spaces. But sizes may not replace brand and price as key criteria for a purchase decision and as we are getting used to thin LED designs, we may not be willing to accept thicker TV designs at this point. Innovation has driven the industry at a fast pace and even if we are still waiting for decent smart TVs and naked 3D TVs, the decline in TV prices has put panel and TV makers in a tough spot. Focusing on cost efficiency is a matter of survival for some manufacturers.
