AOC has introduced a new 19-inch affordable LCD monitor, called the AOC 931SWL. Priced at just USD 99, this is essentially an 18.5-inch TN panel monitor with 1366 x 768 resolutions, so it does not display Full HD resolutions, despite having 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios. The monitor does however come with some decent quality, with 5ms response time, a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 200 cd/m2 brightness, though I won’t say that’s very good. Usually I’d prefer monitors with 300 cd/m2 brightness for gaming and movie watching. The monitor comes with 15-pin D-Sub connectivity, so you still don’t get DVI connectivity with such budget price.

Here’s another high quality monitor from the Korean electronics giant LG. They’ve launched a new 23-inch IPS LCD monitor which can be used as a computer monitor or TV. This IPS panel features 240Hz, which means refresh rate of 240 frames per second. Totally pawns Alienware’s 100Hz monitor and would be awesome for some action pack gaming and HD movies, as this lightning fast refresh rate significantly reduces motion blur to make it less strenuous on the viewer’s eyes and deliver true-to-life images.
This is the first time that the 240Hz technology was applied in a 23-inch product under mass production. The full HD 23-inch 240Hz LCD panel combines the 120Hz technology (refreshes 120 images per second) with the scanning backlight technology, which enable a backlight to be repeatedly turned on and off. Additionally, the use of IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology panel helps reduce distortion in colour or images from any viewing angle, which makes products ideal for TVs.

Here’s a multipurpose monitor from Mitsubishi, though I’m not sure why it’s called multipurpose. It’s a 27-inch Full HD monitor featuring LED backlight panel. The panel has a 6.5ms response time and a 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and a 300cd/m2 brightness. The monitor also has a couple of 3 Watts Stereo speakers, two HDMI ports, a DVI-D port, RGB, Line-in and Line-out. That’s probably why it’s called “multipurpose”. It can also be used in the living room, if you can’t afford anything above 40-inch. The Mitsubishi RDT271WVat is priced at 52,800 Yen or equal to $632.

Acer will be venturing into the 3D laptop market with introduction to two new products, the HS244HQ and AS5745DG. The HS224HQ is a 23.6-inch monitor with 1080p resolution, has 120Hz refresh rate, and a crazy 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio thanks to its LED backlighting.
The AS5745DG is a ‘high cost-performance’ laptop with 15.6-inch screen that does 120Hz, powered by Intel’s 2.5GHz Core i5-460M processor, Nvidia’s GeForce GT425M graphics, 4GB RAM, 640GB storage, and comes with a pair of 3D Vision glasses. Price is around ¥100,000, which is about USD1, 200. It’ll be shipping next month.

Here comes a ‘high-end’ monitor from the people who give us the Evo FQ-400. It’s the Mitsubishi MDT231WG, and 23-inch monitor. Well, not literally developed by Dr Evo, but they’re pretty much under the same group anyway. This is a ‘high-end’ monitor because it’s a 120Hz IPS panel with LED backlighting, utilizing Mitsubishi MPIII and GIGA Clear II image engines. Mitsubishi says it’ll be able to fulfil all your video needs such as video games, movies and basic computer usages.

TN (Twisted nematic) panels are widely used because they’re cheap to produce, but when you want quality displays, IPS (In-plane switching) panel is the way to go. That’s because they improve on the poor viewing angle and the poor colour reproduction of TN panels LG has introduced the LG 21.5-inch IPS226V and 23-inch IPS236V IPS monitors at a press conference in Japan. Measuring at just 19.5mm thick, LG’s new IPS displays boast a 6ms response time, a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution, a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 250 nits of brightness level, an HDMI port and a 178-degree viewing angles. The LG 21.5-inch IPS226V and 23-inch IPS236V will be launched in November and December 2010, respectively. Too bad, there is no info on pricing at this moment.
