Tokyoflash’s latest watch wants you to relax your eye, or kill it.

September 29th, 2010

Tokyoflash’s latest watch wants you to relax your eye, or kill it.

Yet again, we have another watch that can’t tell time, directly at least. The maze-like array you see above does tell time. But, as of Tokyoflash’s culture, the point here isn’t much about knowing time itself, but more of a ‘journey of figuring it out’. Eyes made of high-quality liquid metals trained by the best ninja masters will be able to tell time from their ‘unhelpfully similar background’. The rest of us that are not trained and holified will need to push the magical button to clear away the mist that confuses you. The watch remains a concept for now, but if enough people vote in favor of its unnecessarily convoluted design, Tokyoflash might just go ahead and build a few.

Shattered Clock lets you guess the time…

Shattered Clock lets you guess the time…

How I miss the time when a clock tells time, and that’s it. Straight forward with no funky and fancy tricks. The Shattered Clock only shows the hour that the time is, and every other number is broken apart. Are you able to tell the time for the picture above? It’s 3:55 if you’re wondering.

Seiko's 'active matrix' E Ink watch very classy yet nearly affordable

Seiko's 'active matrix' E Ink watch very classy yet nearly affordable

Seiko, their brand name will always give me a glimpse of their manly watches, and the handsome Asian ambassador Ekin Cheng. But their new concept seemed more ‘geeky’, even though there’s some retro cues. Even the name is very geeky. It’s called the “active matrix” E Ink watch, and it’s going to hit your nearest CityChain store in Christmas.

The company’s had a thing for E Ink timepieces for a while now, but what sets this new one apart is the supposed 180-degree viewing angle it affords – and, of course, those retro good looks do it no harm either. Then there’s also the radio-controlled movement, which receives its time from the nearest atomic clock, and the solar cells framing that electrophoretic display. All very nice and neat, but the best news is that it might (might!) not cost you your limb, your thigh, and your right eye.

The High Definition watch doesn’t tell time straight away.

The High Definition watch doesn’t tell time straight away.

Tokyoflash, the famous name that made amazing watches besides some ridiculously boring ones too. Now they’ve gone and design yet another futuristic watch that looks like it’s from a Star Trek filming set. It’s called the High Definition.

The watch features an always on multi-colour LCD interface that displays the current time. Hours are shown in square blocks and five minute groups are shown as lines outside the square blocks, in the same position as hours and minutes as a clock face. Meanwhile, single minutes 1-4 and seconds are shown in the central zone. I don’t really comprehend the use of LCD over here, as the battery life would somehow be terrible for the ‘always-on’ LCD panel, thought they fail to mention how long it would last actually. Yet another watch that requires me to stare at it for few seconds before knowing the time.

Dot watch is very LED-ed.

Dot watch is very LED-ed.

Over here at 2dayblog.com, we love watches, especially those funky cool watches that looked high-tech yet adorable, or at least not confusing. I personally dislike watches that needs me 5 minutes to think what the time that is being shown is. This watch here however is high-tech yet suitable for simpletons like me. Designed by Damian Kozlik, the Dot is a sleek and elegant wristwatch that looks more like a trendy bracelet than a timepiece. Based on LED technology, the stylish watch features extruded buttons to organize time or date on its LED display. The Dot is also lightweight thanks to the perforated casing. Too bad, it is only a concept so far. It’ll be a very fine looking accessory to my wrist.

Geeky ODM JCDC UFO Watch will increase your ‘geekination’ by 9000!

What we have here surely is one hell of an ugly watch, since I don’t really appreciate artistic watches like these. Looks to me like mini gauge positioned like a LEGO watch. This Geeky ODM JCDC UFO Watch Design is the result from the collaboration between ODM Design and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Available in black, white or multi-colour, the UFO Watch features a plastic case and a silicon belt. If you are interested, you can purchase the Geeky ODM JCDC UFO Watch Design for 23,450 Yen or around $271. You just need to wear huge-ass glasses to match up this geeky watch.

Tokyoflash’s new Night Vision watch is great for your night activity.

August 16th, 2010

Tokyoflash’s new Night Vision watch is great for your night activity.

Tokyoflash has always been known for their funky watches, though some I really can’t comprehend. Now they have yet again unveiled a new wristwatch concept named the Night Vision. What a dull name, but it goes straight to the point. The watch has a bright green interface that displays the current time, even when under low-light condition. The outside 12 bars, which create a hexagonal ring, represents the hours, with the space recording the current hour. Then the minutes are identified in the centre in large digital numerals. The concept watch is finished off with a matte black finish. A very simple yet creative design, but somehow the time reading is rather difficult as both inner display and outer display uses the same theme colour.

The Mutewatch will only tell time if you fondle with it

The Mutewatch will only tell time if you fondle with it

The Mutewatch does have a screen, but the hidden screen only activate with you swipe to scroll between the timer, clock, and alarm. Rather inconvenient somehow. But it also features a silent alarm in the form of a vibrating wristband. Priced at 199 Euros or around $260, the Mutewatch is currently available in white, gray or red.

New Casio neon-blue watch is for sporty gals.

August 13th, 2010

New Casio neon-blue watch is for sporty gals.

The new Casio LW-S200HT Tough Solar watch is specially designed for sporty women, who like to stay fit and healthy through jogging. As part of the Casio Collection Series, the fitness watch comes with a display illumination that ensures that the face can be easily read at the press of a button, even as darkness falls. Sounds rather typical actually. Anyway, the watch also features five alarm slots, a snooze function for your alarm, and world time for 48 cities. The integrated database function Lap Memory ensures the logged stop and lap times, and intervening periods can be stored together with the date, enabling comparison at a later stage, and perhaps for you to create a chart of your exercise routine, which I really love. The memory features enough space for 120 data sets (about 3 months record), ensuring that you always keep your running performance in sight. The Casio LW-S200HT Tough Solar watch retails for 5,700 Yen ($66) in Japan.

Mr. Clock is such an attention -ho–

August 3rd, 2010

Meet Mr. Clock. He can tell you the time, but only when you pay attention to him. If you do not, he will get rather annoyed. But to show you how annoyed he is, he won’t give you the time, but only show you some ‘sneak peak’ of the current time. His idea of sneak peak? Random, nonsensical configurations, in segmented display. Only when you step right closer to him and give him some of your attention, will he do what he’s supposed to do, that is to tell you the time. Designed by Park Hye-Yeon, it’s supposed to be a piece of art. But his idea of an art that doesn’t do well in telling the time is that “if a clock’s ticking away in a gallery and there’s no one around to see it, does it really display the time?”
