August 9th, 2010

Remember when the Frash gave iPad the possibility to view Flash objects? Now it’s here for the iPhone 4, courtesy of Comex. They have successfully compiled Adobe’s latest Flash 10.1 for Frash, and you can easily get `em to run on your iPhone 4. It’s very simple, jailbreak, download the .deb, upload it to Cydia\AutoInstall on your phone via SSH, restart and you’re done. [*Remember that Jailbreaking might brick your iPhone and warranty, so do it on your own risk]

Marvelous FaceTime from the ocean, there’s no video call before iPhone 4.

July 20th, 2010

I guess Apple really made some impressive marketing impression onto many people. Few years ago when Nokia roll out dozens of video-calling capable phones, nobody actually go and have fun around with it, calling their friends from any weird places. It’s as if video call didn’t exist yet. But now with Apple FaceTime, all of a sudden everyone’s FaceTime-ing their friends, from every odd corner of the world.

Check out this video of a FaceTime call, from the oddest place of all, the ocean, where there’s totally no radio coverage and no free Wi-Fi for you to leech. Video calling from an isolated oceanic point, done by the Pegasus crew that’s embarking the Pacific Cup 2010 en route to Hawaii from San Francisco. It was halfway between SF and Honolulu, where there’s no land within 1,000 miles, and the captain fire up his FaceTime using satellite connection, and show the mainland crew the conditions.

Rot.Sketch app creates funky artwork using your iPhone

Jean Helfenstein surely has a creative head, as his Rot.Sketch app surely is a funky app to play with.

You start by drawing a random design on the screen by swiping with one finger to create a moving point, or with two fingers to create a moving line, and then you literally spin your iPhone or iPod Touch on a flat surface to create the psychedelic digital designs.

Watch the video below to understand even further how the funky app works. But then, if you have it on your iPhone 4, it’s going to be a painful game. Have a look at the video to know why. The app itself is not yet available however, as it is still pending approval from the iTunes App Store.

Pantech joins the Android smartphone crowd with its Vega IM-A650S

July 15th, 2010

Pantech Vega IM-A650S

Pantech doesn’t seem happy with the iPhone 4’s craze over at Korea. Therefore they have launched their answer to the competition, of kush running on Android. The Vega IM-A650S made by Pantech and sold via Sky (Korean carrier), comes with Android 2.1. Froyo is coming soon, when the customization is complete. The Vega runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, the usual Google Gizmos, a 3D UI, Pre-load T-Cash payment system of Korea, and a nice 3.7” multitouch AMOLED screen (presumably from Samsung). Despite being bigger than the iPhone 4, it weights at only 114g, which is 23g lighter.

iOS 4.1 around the corner, SDK available now.

iOS 4.1 around the corner, SDK available now.

This would seemed to be one of the fastest updates ever from Apple. As the antenna issue of the iPhone 4 keep haunting Apple, they’re quick to release an update to the iOS 4 in order to ‘comfort’ some of the owners, and divert the attention from the ‘hardware based’ issue. SDK of the iOS 4.1 has already been seeded to developers registered to Apple, so we can expect the update coming to public very soon. Engadget has a photo of the ‘promised’ change in the ‘way of the reception signal being displayed’.

How an iPhone 3G feels like 2 years later, with iOS 4.

July 15th, 2010

Remember the original iPhone commercial? It was definitely a revolution to many back then. But how time flies, and our smartphones are running at 1GHz (zomgwtfbbqsauce) processor. I wonder if you’ve heard this or not, but many has shown similar results when they plunk in an iOS 4 into an iPhone 3G. An owner of iPhone 3G decided to try his luck on iOS 4 with his ‘now-aging’ iPhone 3G, and try out everything that is done on the original iPhone commercial. Simply put, it’s to replicate the iPhone commercial. Wow, what a sight to behold.

Consumer Report: The iPhone 4's no good. Apple: Buy the phon! Buy the phon!

Weeks ago, the Consumer Reports announced that they strongly recommend the Apple iPhone 4, saying that it’s the best smartphone out there. Funny that they would say such thing when, they’re a serious non-profit organization who does unbiased testing on products before releasing their definitive opinions, would release such statement even before testing it. Must have be the job of some fan boys in the group.

Fring brings video call to iPhone 4.

This came as another surprise lately. The FaceTime has been Apple’s prime baby in video calling, and it’s hard to imagine Apple approving 3rd party apps to access the front camera of the iPhone 4 for video calling. Fring has just updated their new ‘Fring for iPhone’ with support for the iOS 4, and added video call for the iPhone 4 using the front facing camera. Read more…
