Imagine a tablet computer that is light, and eco-friendly, as in, you do not need to recharge it. Unbelievable? Well, yes, it’s still a dream at the moment. This is the dream of Jun-se Kim, Yonggu Do, and Eunha Seo. The concept tablet is called the Ecopad, and the unique part of it is that that it uses no external power source to recharge its battery. The gadget has the nano piezoelectricity film on its touchscreen display that turns every touch or press on the screen into electricity. Yes, I can imagine recharging the battery of the tablet simply by playing Tap Tap Revenge.
Aston Martin used to work with Zagato to come up with some truly good cars, but those were the old days. But now, both companies have returned to work together again on a new concept super car. This new concept is called the V12 Zagato endurance racer concept, which was unveiled over the weekend at the Villa D’Este Concours in Lake Como, Italy, primarily as a basis to gauge customer interest, with a view towards a strictly limited run of road-going V12 Zagatos to come about.
As the name says, the car is indeed going to be part of the endurance race program, and not a street-legal version, yet. The engine is of course powered by a V12. The new handcrafted aluminium body is shaped in such a manner that’s not possible using pre-formed panel techniques, AM says – utilising the skill of nearly 100 years of heritage in the craft, every aluminium panel on the car has been formed using an English wheel and traditionally-crafted body bucks. Well, the car is still a concept so it’s not a problem anyway.
According to Aston Martin, each front wing comprises seven separate pieces of aluminium, combined and then hand finished to give one flowing form. Another iconic Zagato design cue is the double bubble roof, created in this case from five separate pieces, illustrating further the intensity of craftsmanship involved in the construction of the car. Though, I can’t really deny that the car has the look of a Nissan GTR R35, and also a Ferrari California.
The V12 Zagato is powered by an all-alloy, quad overhead cam 6.0 litre V12 mill producing 510 hp and 570 Nm of torque, mated to a rear mid-mounted, six-speed automated manual gearbox with auto shift manual/select shift manual (ASM/SSM) electric hydraulic control system.
Like the first DB4GT Zagato, which was shown to the public in late 1960 and which spent much of its life as a racing car after being launched, the new car is set to walk the same path – the first two V12 Zagatos to be created are set to serve as endurance race cars for Aston Martin. The car will make its racing debut in the 53. ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN round at Nürburgring next week, with a view to two cars racing in the 24 hour race on June 25-26.
There’s always a place for renewable and clean power, be it concept of not. But do you mind if your watch can only tell you time when you blow your smelly mouth towards it? That’s going to be a very smelly watch.
“Hey dude, what time it is?”
“Hold, let me blow my watch!”
Right, that’s going to be very awkward. Designer Julien Moise envisioned a device that’s powered by blown air, displaying the time only when you want to see it. It’s a very good idea, and that your watch will never run out of power, as long as you don’t run out of breath. But if you really do, you still have your trusty iPhone to tell you your time.
Is the tri-fold concept really coming? It seemed so. The idea started way back in 2006 when Fujitsu’s R&D envisioned it but doesn’t seem practical back then, but fast forward 5 years later and we’re seeing the tri-fold concept being brought back again this year.
“Life with Future Computing Award” saw the return of the tri-fold concept this year. The Flexbook, designed by Hao-Chun Huang, features a foldable 21:9 touchscreen and similarly flexible keyboard that allow its users to switch from laptop to tablet to book-like e-reader. It’s also been designed to sport a number of interchangeable sleeves in a Benetton-esque array of colors and patterns.
Back five years ago things might be impractical with the technology, but with compact ARM processors that don’t need dedicated cooling, and with chips getting smaller than ever, and even LCD screens that can be folded, the Flexbook seemed to be possible yet again.
Here is a concept USB drive that many might find it very welcome. If you used to have some Windows Mobile smartphone, then you’ll be familiar with microSD cards in the 1GB and 2GB size. This concept USB drive, dubbed The Collector, could potentially solve our conundrum by allowing us to toss all those thumb drives and find a use for our microSD chips that are scattered all over the place.
The Collector does not have any storage of its own, but instead you can slip in up to three microSD cards. It would also combine your smaller chunks of storage into a single block, so those three 2GB scraps would become a slightly less useless 6GB drive.
Efficient recycling method from Yanko. Someone must build this!
The rivalry in Korea is not slowing down. Whenever Samsung announce a new breakthrough, LG is sure to follow (and vice versa, taking turns). LG is again taking a lead in the display technology by demonstrating a crazy new 47-inch display that packs in everything a geek could want: IPS technology, 1080p resolution, multitouch, and some good old transparency, just because they can. Totally a James Bond technology right there.
Of course, this is not a commercial product for home use, but this so-called Window Display is intended for advertisers and other digital signage proprietors, meaning that even if it wasn’t still at the concept stage, it likely wouldn’t be populating living rooms anyway.
TAG Heuer is no stranger when it comes to luxurious watch, but they’re also famous for very high-tech watch that’s not only for show, but has the technology to back up the price tag that they’re asking for. Here’s a new watch from TAG Heuer if you’re looking for one. The TAG Heuer Mikrotimer Flying 1000 concept watch is known as the first mechanical chronograph to achieve 1/100 accuracy and a speed of 500Hz. Set to debut later this week at Basal, the timepiece features a highly modern design with an innovative case system made of black titanium carbide and silver titanium horns. As this model is currently a concept watch, there is no word on when it will go into production, and how much, but I’m sure it’s going to be quite sky high.
You mad, they cripple. You jelly, they crack. You gay, they poker face. Alright, that isn’t very accurate. Anyway, besides showing off their dual-screen Echo smartphone at CTIA, Kyocera also showed an interesting concept phone, which is pictured above. As our mood can be told by our movements and body language, Kyocera thinks that these handsets would physically morph to express the mental state of your caller and you. Not sure why they want to do that, but next time when you’re in a bad mood due to your PMS, just show him your phone. The black slab on the left would represent a good mood while the one on the far right is clearly all worked up about something. Probably a good start, but I think they should focus on more interesting features instead of showing off your mood to people when you want to compress them.
Image shows a third-party metal back for iPhone 4, not an actual image of iPhone 5.
9to5Mac has source from inside of Foxconn that says the next iPhone prototype has surfaced. The source claimed that the next iPhone will retain the same shape, but screen size will be slightly bigger, believed to be 4-inch. It’s said that the Retina Display has also been improved, though no screen resolution was mentioned.
A superyacht needs to have its super class technology, although many of its owners won’t even bother about it, especially when you tell them how fuel-saving their yacht is. In this latest concept, Xiang Yu from the Netherlands has given this concept superyacht a touch of the latest sustainable energy (imaginary technology that is) via a breath-taking retractable sail. And because the retractable sail that he designs look like a flower that blooms, the concept superyacht is called the “Bloom”.
