Great news! For those who’ve played the Hitman series, after being absent for 5 years, the Hitman series is finally back! The new game, called Hitman: Absolution will bring back IO Interactive’s killer-for-hire to your PC screen, PS3, and Xbox.
IO Interactive makes the game official today, after a trademark filing outed the name of Hitman: Absolution late last month. According to the announcement, Absolution sees Agent 47 take on his most dangerous contract to date. He’ll travel a corrupt and twisted world in order to get to the bottom of a dark conspiracy. Sounds like par for the course, really.
“For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman fantasy,” said Tore Blystad, game director, IO Interactive. “This is both a familiar and yet significantly different experience from other Hitman games; something our silent assassins will relish, as will all those new to the Hitman world.”
Built using IO Interactive’s Glacier 2 proprietary game engine, players can expect a cinematic story, distinctive art direction, and an original game design that combines Hitman’s classic game mechanics with entirely new ones.
Is the above image pretty? Well, that’s one of the maps in the upcoming Electronic Arts game Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3 is said to be using the new FrostBite graphics engine, and will be ‘very pretty’ with epic explosion. However, if you’re going for the ‘normal’ Battlefield 3, then you won’t be able to have this map.
The map above is called ‘Back to Karkand’. It is an old map in the previous Battlefield 2 that is ported over to Battlefield 3 to work in the new FrostBite engine. The map will be free if you pre-ordered the Limited Edition Battlefield 3. The pack includes the four most played maps in the history of Battlefield: Strike at Karkland, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula. Combined, DICE says, these maps have been played for 25,000 years.
There has been no announcement from Activision, but we’ve heard that they’ve been developing the upcoming Call of Duty game. Now sources who have seen the game says that it’s going to be Modern Warfare 3, and is expected to arrive in fall.
The game is said to be developed by Infinity Ward, assisted by Activision’s new arm Sledgehammer Games, and also Raven Software might also be involved. This is because a huge numbers of the original developers in Infinity Ward left the company in a civil-litigation uprising last year, so do expect things to be slightly different than the previous game.
In the original Modern Warfare, a civil war breaks out in the Russia of 2011. The story continues in Modern Warfare 2, which has a terrorist attack in Russia erroneously linked to the United States. That leads Russian forces to invade the U.S. Some of the missions even feature rolling ground combat in the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Virginia and in the capital itself.
Key to the near ending of Modern Warfare 2, was the detonation of a nuclear missile in the upper atmosphere above the Mid-Atlantic, something that creates an electromagnetic pulse that destroyed all electronic equipment on both sides of the raging war in D.C. Such an event would cripple the area in the short term, essentially removing the ability to use most technology in the region as the country tries to rebuild or bring in support from other parts of the country. It also seems that it could make the story a hard one to follow in a modern day shooter. We might be seeing a slightly alternate realm in a modern day setting for Modern Warfare 3.
According to Kotaku, the source claimed that Modern Warfare 3 will continue along that storyline, delivering a “world in crisis” feel to the aftermath of the U.S. invasion. However, it looks like it won’t be another take on Red Dawn, a post-U.S. invasion storyline already explored by Homefront. While it’s unclear where specifically the game will be set, Modern Warfare 3 will have an urban setting, much like the U.S. missions in Modern Warfare 2, with military vehicles, including tanks, rolling through suburban streets.
What’s unique about Modern Warfare 3, well at least according to the source, is that the upcoming sequel will take place on a much larger, epic scale. This means that stories might take place at more countries at a larger scale, which means involvements of more parties, and potentially leading to a World War III pre-event. The game will also feature large, urban destructible environments.
If you’ve been looking around, EA’s Battlefield is also set for a fall release, with things taking place on a larger map with more epic destructible environment. So are the two rivals going to face each other face to face this fall?
It’s hard to believe, that after 14 years of development (give and take, inclusive of exchange of hands), Duke is finally coming back, with a proper release date! Yes, Duke Nukem Forever is coming out next month, on June 14 in the US, and June 10 for the rest of the world. The game is now up for pre-order on Steam, with 10% off the full price and comes with full Steamworks support, which means auto updating patches and Steam cloud game saving. If quietly buying the game digitally isn’t Duke enough for you, there’s always the Balls of Steel edition, which comes with a huge bust of the Duke.
Many old games are getting some reboot these days, just like how Hollywood is lately. The latest remake of Tomb Raider is set on an untold story of a younger Lara, back when she just started being an adventurer. This means that the plot will be Lara’s teenage-age with flashbacks of her childhood.
A new custom map has surfaced on gamebanana to play on a very aging game, which is Counter Strike: Source. So what’s so special about that particular map that got so many attentions? Well, the map, “fy_abbottabad” is a replica of Osama Bin Laden’s compound with massive tall walls. Of course, this game is said to be very CT-sided, to replicate the actual event.
According the map’s creator, Fletch, “What a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that the only thing this map has in common with Osama is location.” Fletch is planning on evolving fy_abbottabad into a bomb or hostage map later. At the moment, you’re restricted to aimlessly shooting your chums around the final resting place of a deceased terrorist.
A version called “de_abbottabad” has been developed which allows you to play as the Terrorist team, which returns to the scene to destroy sensitive information before it can be located and taken away by the Counter Terrorist team.
Good news is that the creator has also expressed his interest in developing the map for Counter Strike 1.6 version too.
First announced in 2008, Diablo 3 came and go so fast I almost forgot about this hack-and-slash game that were in development by Blizzard. Right, good news folks, although it’s still isn’t a completely good news.
Activision-Blizzard announced their quarter report, and among the details given, once was regarding the upcoming Role-Playing-Game Diablo 3, a much-awaited sequel to the highly popular Diablo universe from Blizzard.
Mike Morheime of Activision hinted that Diablo 3 might turn up on stores this year, finally, but mentioned that they wouldn’t “rush the game out to hit a deadline.”
Mike said that ‘the game does not have a launch date. We’re working very hard to try and release it this year, but we will not compromise on quality.’ He also confirmed that the Diablo 3 beta will hit in the third quarter of 2011. Yes!
Since Diablo 3 will be hitting open beta this year, and that predictions were “not expecting a Blizzard game in 2011” and “expect two Blizzard titles in 2012”, that means Diablo 3 will most probably arrive early next year, with another accompanying game at summer or fall. Which game would that be? A new World of Warcraft expansion, or Heart of the Swarm?
Activision/Blizzard just announced their quarter report, or should you say ‘quarter profit’, since they’re making so much moolah. Anyway, a few important info were also announced for gamers that paid attention. Activision said that they are working on a new Call of Duty Online micro-transaction focused game for Asian markets. Also, new details of the next Call of Duty, the popular First Person Shooter game from Activision, will be announced in upcoming weeks, what they refer to their shareholders as ‘a combined marketing campaign that will the largest we’ve ever executed.’
Ubisoft has finally announced the game that was teased at Facebook, which is Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The game, said to be the last of Ezio Auditore’s trilogy, will be arriving on the PS3, Xbox, and PC simultaneously on November, though we won’t bet on that. That sounded awfully familiar.
Anyway, I’m very excited about this new instalment, as the game will take place in Constantinople, which is now known as Istanbul. The Constantinople was founded by the Roman Empire, which you can easily see how it relates to Ezio.
In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, master assassin Ezio Auditore walks in the footsteps of his legendary mentor, Altaïr, on a journey of discovery and revelation. It is a perilous path – one that will take Ezio to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where a growing army of Templars threatens to destabilize the region.
“Delivering the final chapter of the Ezio trilogy is an important milestone in the Assassin’s Creed franchise for us and for our fans,” said Alexandre Amancio, Creative Director at Ubisoft Montreal. “Assassin’s Creed Revelations includes lots of new features and some significant surprises. We can’t wait to show our fans what we have in store at E3 this year.”
In addition to Ezio’s award-winning story, the acclaimed online multiplayer experience returns, refined and expanded, with more modes, more maps and more characters that allow players to test their assassin skills against others from around the world. The latest chapter in the Assassin’s Creed saga also includes revolutionary gameplay, allowing players to manipulate the construct of Desmond’s memories and the Animus to decipher the mysteries of his past and gain insight into the future.
Along with maps being centered on Constantinople, Abstergo will have much more to do with multiplayer than it did before, with players taking the place of an employee who’s working their way up in the company. This will allow access to information regarding how and why Abstergo does what it does.
Small details can be changed to personalize characters to make them represent the player more so than in the last game, so there won’t just be duplicates of the same character running around like in Brotherhood. Ubisoft decided to do this because every time they mentioned releasing new characters, fans became more active on Ubisoft forums and elsewhere. It’s more of a fanservice than anything, which I certainly don’t mind.
It will also be possible to specifically choose which maps or modes to play with the use of playlists, guild customizations, and additional features that access the community. This means that inviting friends and managing what sort of games you want to play will be easier than in Brotherhood, with a more polished system and less time wasted waiting for matches to start up.
Deus Ex is said to be an epic game, and well, the required spec for your computer to run it has been announced. Things are looking good actually, as the rather ‘decent’ spec for the ‘recommended spec’ seem to show that this sci-fi game is indeed going to be rather awesome.
Deus Ex, the third game in the cyberpunk shooter/RPG franchise, will be out on August 23 on not just the PC, but PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.
