The portable cassette players once nearly universally identified as the Walkman may have seen better days, but their spirit is still alive, so far as Sony is concerned. The company is apparently set to release the latest entry in the line, the slick-looking NWZA865B, a 16GB portable media player with wireless file sharing and music streaming capabilities. CNET points out that the device likely won’t have built-in WiFi, due to evidence from the FCC, which does seem to limit the aforementioned streaming options. The 16GB model is also likely one of a number of capacities to be offered, ranging from 8GB to 64GB. The device is available for viewing on UK retailer Buy.com with a £130 ($213) price tag and a July 31st release date.

Android really is getting everywhere, and now we’re seeing it slipping into the famous Creative’s Zen lineup. Well, there’s no harm in utilizing your fairly familiar mobile OS in something that’s also very mobile. Doubt as the successor of the X-Fi2, this new Zen Touch 2 will be running on Google’s Éclair.

This here PMP sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi 802.11n, an accelerometer, inbuilt speaker, two megapixel camera at the back, microSD card slot, GPS, digital compass, FM radio tuner and an ugly plastic Pocket-lint’s stated in their brief hands-on review with the device, noting that the touch panel is of the resistive variety and the user interface was jumpy and problematic to say the least. It’ll be landing soon in 8GB and 16GB sizes for S$279.

Yes we’ve seen lots of Android smartphones, and some tablets too. But PMP (Portable Music Player) running on Android is rather rare. Samsung was the first to load Android onto their Yepp-YP-MB2, but now Philips seemed to have followed their footsteps with their latest GoGear Connect PMP powered by Android too. It’s a rather nice direction to drop the proprietary OS in favour of Google’s offer, as things get more ‘global’ and much well taken care off instead of in-house development which might even cost more too.

The product listing from Argos shows that Philips’s new 3.2-inch Android-based PMP listed comes in both 8GB and 16GB. The 16GB variant will cost you £199.99, which is around $313. Kinda pricey for a typical PMP, though there’s touchscreen and even Android marketplace. Check out the specs below.

3.2-inch touchscreen display

Stores up to 3,600 tracks or up to 4,000 photos.

25 hours playback or 5 hours video playback.

Rechargeable via AC/DC adaptor and USB port.

Size (H)5.9, (W)11.3, (D)1.3cm.

2.0 USB port.

16GB memory.

MP3/WMA/AAC/OggVorbis compatible.

USB cable supplied.

FM tuner with 20 station pre-sets.

MicroSD card slot.

GPS.

Built-in camera.

Android 2.1 marketplace.

Includes headphones.

Weight 128g.
