Samsung has just launch their Android-powered smartphone, the Galaxy S at Japan, and it has already outsold Apple’s iPhone in first week sales. The first time in 18 weeks that iPhone’s domination streak was broken. Admittedly the figures only reflect one week’s sales. Also important is that the sales reflect the first week in which Samsung’s offering was made available for purchase. Read more…
Wow, some very delicious news has been announced by Samsung India. Apparently, the Galaxy Tab will receive updates soon, despite being released not too long ago, and the update comes in the form of Android 2.3. They’ve also mentioned that Android 2.3 will be Gingerbread, and Android 3.x will be Honeycomb. However, Samsung India also mentioned that the Galaxy Tab will even receive the Honeycomb update when it’s available publicly. For your info, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will go on sale from next week in most countries and runs on Froyo (Android 2.2) OS.

Wow, this is fast. Just a week ago that we heard about Wi-Fi Direct certification going on, and now we have the first official device to carry that certification, and it’s a product that’s selling millions worldwide. Samsung’s hot-selling Galaxy S smartphone (GT-I9000) is now listed on the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Wi-Fi Direct certification docket, and while we knew that a handful of Wi-Fi modules and chipsets were about to get green-lit, this marks the first actual device to join that crowd. Hopefully we’ll get to see more devices being certified.
Well, it’s already a norm to see massive batteries on compact mobile electronic devices. Just look at Apple’s latest Mac Mini. Now, someone has also opened up the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and found a chunky white slab of power storage dominating the majority of its subdermal real estate. Intel, Samsung, and Toshiba are joining forces for R&D efforts in a consortium financed partly by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The government Ministry is pouring in an expected 50 percent, or 5 billion yen / US $62 million and the rest from the members. The goal is to develop semiconductor chips nearing 10nm by 2016. That’s 6 years’ time. Ten more companies are expected to be invited once things get sorted out. Wow, things will get very interesting once 10nm chips get into our devices.
Wow, Samsung is on a roll here. If we just look back a year ago, everyone was struggling with the recession economy crisis, but now Samsung is posting record breaking revenue. The numbers reaches ₩40.23 trillion ($35.8 billion) as well as profits (₩4.46 trillion; $3.96 billion) in this latest quarter. Credit goes to strong semiconductor performance for the bulk of its newfound fortune. A tip of the hat was also given to its mobile communications business, with the outfit moving a staggering 71.4 million phones during Q3 2010 (a 19 percent boost year-over-year). Reports are noting that between five and seven million of those were of the Galaxy S variety, and it’s hoping to sell ten million of ‘em before the close of this year. Careful Apple, somebody’s close on your tail.

Care for a Gingerbread munching this coming snowing holiday? Google might just be the Santa this year as they’re reported to drop Android 3.0 into some tablets this coming December. Yey… Just when you want to grab that sexy Galaxy Tab. Thinking twice now eh? You can thank me later. There’s some folk tale circulating that during this Christmas HTC, Samsung, and Motorola will be showing off some of their Gingerbread themed tablets to the public, and they’ll even reach retail in as early as January. But one thing to note, is that it’s very much confirmed that it’s Android 3.0 that’s coming this December, but nobody knows whether it’s Gingerbread, of the tablet-minded Honeycomb, or is it Banana-split.
